Marcia's Story
Life
I met my husband Jack Johnston when I was a secretary at the School of Social Work at Boston University in 1963 where he was in his last year of graduate school. (We recently celebrated our 54th anniversary in August 2018.)
Our elder daughter and her husband are both physicians in Pennsylvania and are parents of our 2 grandsons (18 and 16 years of age in 2018). Her younger sister lives on the west coast. I returned to work at Boston University in 1980 in order that they both could take advantage of BU's excellent tuition remission program. I was enjoying working as a secretary in the Psychology Department that I stayed on for 13 years longer than the 10 I had originally planned to. Since retiring in 2003 I have been kept busy doing secretarial work for Jack in several of his projects as well as working on my own projects. I don't need to commute any longer, unless you call riding upstairs on my Acorn stair lift several times a day commuting! (The installation of the stair lift occurred in 2015 after I fractured my left pelvic bone falling on the ice. It was either that or a move into a retirement community and neither Jack nor I felt ready for that.)
I returned to work in 1981 at BU--this time in the Psychology Department, where I took advantage of the excellent tuition-remission program for the two girls. I been retired since September 2003 and love it!
My hobbies are knitting and reading.
