Dale's Story

Life I'm currently a Sergeant and coming up on my 6th year in the Marine Corps. I've been to over 14 different countries including 2 tours in Iraq. The first couple of years I spent in Japan where I met my wife, Michele. She was on a college exchange program studying abroad. She is from Newark, OH, graduated from Licking Valley High School and graduated from Wittenburg University in Springfield, OH with a BA in east asian studies. We dated for a while and got married right before my second deployment to Iraq, in January, 2004. We now own our house on Lady's Island, SC near the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, SC where I'm currently stationed. We are excitingly awaiting our first child due in Oct. 2005. We're not finding out the sex of the baby, but obviously I want a boy. The names we have picked out are boy- Kilian Dale and girl- Mary Dalena (Lani). I don't get back to Troy that often but when I do its really short timed with all the family and friends I need to see. Military I'm currently a Sergeant in the Marine Corps. September will be my 6-year mark, only 14 until retirement. I went to boot...Expand for more
camp sept-dec 1999 in San Diego, Ca. Then Marine Corps combat training at Camp Pendleton, Ca Jan 2000. After that I attended my military occupational school (MOS) in Pensacola, Florida Feb-May 2000. A short break later I went to my first duty station Iwakuni, Japan. It was supposed to be a one year tour but I exteded it it 2 years. From there I deployed to So. Korea/No. Korea for a training excercise and the small island in the Indian ocean called Diego Garcia for support of Enduring Freedom, stopping for a few days in Singapore before returning to Iwakuni. In May of 2002 I got orders to Cherry Point/ Bogue field, NC From there I deployed to Iraq twice in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, once during the begining stages of the war and was part of the push to Baghdad. The second time I saw a lot less action, we took over an Iraqi air base and used it as our own air station. In January, 2005 I got new orders to Beaufort, SC where I stand as a Runway crewleader in charge of 2 criss-crossing runways and all the arresting gear/ visual landing aids that go along with it.
