Rob's Story

Life {In the above pictures, I am on the left and Clay is on the right, and the photos include our beloved daughter, Rainey, and our beloved son, Jimmy. Also, FYI, my classmates.com membership expires on 9-30-07 and I'm not renewing it; therefore, I won't be able to view signatures to my guestbook anymore, etc.} My family and I live in the Atlanta area. In 1992 I met and fell in love with my husband and soul mate, Clay. We had our wedding in 1993 (as husband and husband) and then got legally married in Massachusetts in 2004 when marriage equality became available there. We have the most wonderful and beautiful two children in the world, both of whom we jointly adopted at birth, from the same birth mother (along with both birth fathers), who handpicked us to be our children's parents. Our daughter, Rainey, was born on 09-02-02, and our son, Jimmy, was born on 12-16-05. I'm Daddy and Clay is Dad. We both love our two kids sooooo much!!! They are our miracles from God. They mean everything to us. I'm a full-time stay-at-home parent, which I really love, and Clay works full-time in computers to support our family. ass of 1986. I took Clay's last name, so our family's last name is Calhoun. Also, in college, I changed my first name from Robbie to Rob. Before becoming a stay-at-home parent, I worked in social services with various populations. My favorite work was working in the Deaf community, as I am hearing impaired and fluent in American Sign Language. I was bullied and teased and taunted a great deal in both elementary school and high school, both for my hearing and speech impairment (I was called "Wobbie Warwhoa" for Robbie Harlow), and also for being gay, which seemed obvious to everyone from an early, early age. I turned my childhood experiences into a positive into adulthood by becoming a gay and lesbian equality activist (family, adoption and marriage equality) and becoming much more active and involved in the Deaf and hard of hearing community than I was as a child and teen. Also, my difficult and rough childhood and teenage years made me very empathetic and sensitive to others, hence my career in social work. As an adult, I've never been happier and blessed, especially with my very close and happy family of four with our two beloved children, Rainey and Jimmy...
