Amy's Story
Life
Currently I'm just doing the work thing, still working for Hilton. Gotta love the hotel business, never a dull moment! I take advantage of my travel benefits whenever I can. I still love catching a concert when I can. For years I was the girl who just didn't understand football, didn't get, didn't want to. That all changed when the entire Seattle Seahawks team stayed at my hotel for training camp in 2011and 2012. After getting to know these guys I wanted to see what they did so I learned the basics and started watching games. It made a big difference knowing who was on the field. And now....I get, I understand why people love football!!
April 2020: It's a strange time in the world right now with the Corona virus/Covid 19. Unfortunately there have been a lot of deaths caused by this pandemic.
Most if not all of us are quarantined at home, only going out when necessary, keeping a 6ft space between other people. Waiting in line to go into the grocery stores due to limited number of people allowed in to allow for social distancing which will be the phrase of the year....Expand for more
Hotels are considered essential businesses so I'm one of the lucky ones who are still working, although we're incredibly slow.
Workplace
After high school I went to broadcasting school in San Francisco and then at 19 with a weeks notice moved to beautiful(not!) Rock Springs, Wyoming where I worked as a DJ for a few years. Over the years I've "tried on" a lot of different jobs. I managed a couple Mrs. Fields cookie stores in the Bay Area, lived in a tent in while working at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite and did retail for quite a few years only to finally realize I AM NOT a good salesperson! But I love customer service which is why working at a hotel is so great. Lots of customer/guest interaction, I don't have to sell anything and it's never boring. Not to mention great travel benefits.
I moved around a lot between 84 and 96- Wyoming, back to California, Indiana, back to California, Wyoming (yes, again!), Utah and finally Washington. I've been here since late 96 so I guess I must like it :-) Although I do see moving to Louisiana in the future to be closer to my parents.
