Lydia's Story
I was in the whopping big Class of '75--there were TEN of us!! I'm still just five foot and a smidgen more, but of probably don't weigh what I did then (do any of us?). My hair used to be long and brown--now it's short and whatever color covers the gray that started showing up when I was 19 (I let my hairdresser decide every month). Since graduation, I've been to McNeese State and earned a B.A. in English Education (which I never really got to use); got married in '81 and moved to Hackberry; had a son (now 27); worked at a bank in Cameron for a few years (actually made better money than I do now!!); worked for the Calcasieu Parish School Bd as a special ed teacher (and still do); weathered Hurricane Rita at my camp in Toldeo Bend, sold our water-damaged home in Hackberry (lived there for almost 25 years); and bought a spread in the Singer area a few years ago. mother, who is 92 and lives with us, my husband, five cats, and someone else's Akita (looks like a sled dog on steroids). I work at Jake Drost School for Exceptional Children and really enjoy and appreciate my summer weeks off. I can't begin to count the school days that don't end for me till 8-9 at night!! Hubby retired from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve in Hackberry about a half year before we left there and now he is busy doing as little work as possible and lots of hunting, fishing, golfing, and anything else that helps him forget how much he misses his job. My son moved to Baton Rouge after high school, then moved back home a year ago--cost of living was too high for someone who was a part-time employee and a full-time college student. He's very helpful with those jobs Hubby just doesn't get around to.
