Joy's Story

Life Hi, wow, can't believe it has been 33 years since graduation. Feels like it was yesterday. What have I been doing those 33 years...where to start... I have 2 daughters, Sandy 28 and Jennifer 25, a step-daughter, Ruthann 30. I am a grandma! Sandy has a son Deion 8, Jennifer has 2 girls, Keara 5 and Jade 10 months, Ruthann has 5 kids, Randy 14, Raelenna 9, Lindsay 8, Regan 8, Madison 3. Tracy Couch, My husband and the man with whom I spent 15 years of my life passed away 11/05. For about a year I have been dating a wonderful man, Joe. Currently I am disabled and have been since 1992. In June after graduation I went to work for an insurance company, was with them for 18 years. I worked my way up to Underwriter Assistant, I loved my job. At the height of my career in 1992 I became very ill. Doctors were baffled and couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. In 1994 it was discovered due to a nasty little tick bite in October 1991, I had lyme disease. In 1994 I was finally diagnosed by a specialist, unfortunately too late for me. Which is now chronic lyme disease because in 1992 my HMO didn't believe lyme disease existed in Missouri, therefore I wasn't given the antibiotic t...Expand for more
o kill out the lyme disease. I am not sad or bitter. II would like to share with you "my miracle", It was Christmas Eve, 1995, I was in the ER thought I was having a heart attack. It was discovered that I had a hole in my heart--get this--since birth! It was called a PDA--between the aorta and pulmonary. The doctors were amazed at the size of the hole, amazed that years earlier I hadn't had a stroke or heart attack, and amazed that here I was 50yrs of age standing before them. A PDA hole normally occurs in newborn babies and young children, if gone undetected it is very unusual to live past 10-12 years, let alone the teenage years. I was sent to several heart surgeons and specialists, the adult cardiologists hadn't closed a PDA--ever. I was sent to a wonderful children's cardiologist/heart surgeon--I had my surgery June 26, 2006-at Children's Mercy Hospital. I am one of the oldest patients to have had heart surgery at the Children's Hospital. So there is my miracle of a lifetime. God is good, I am truly blessed. Life has been bumpy, I have chosen the wrong path many times. But, God always brings me back to the right path. Life happens. Would love to hear your life stories.
