Norman's Story
Life
Married 3 days following HS graduation at age 17. Judy and I now have 4 grown children and several grandchildren to look after (spoil). Hope that makes sense to you how to contact me?
School
Attended several military schools in electronics (physics), supply, avionics, social worker, and following my commission in August 1980 I was trained in Field Medical Sciences, Military Comptrollership, Medical Comptrollership, Software Engineering, Hospital Admin. and finally following military retirement I completed my PhD in Social Sciences and Business Education.
I obtained my Bachelors in Business Admin. from Marshall Univ. in 1979. I graduated with honors Summa Cum Laude in Finance before going on to complete my MBA in Business & Commerce in 1980 also from Marshall Univ. there in Huntington, WV. while stationed with the WVARNG in St. Albans and working at the Federal Bldg. on 5th Ave and 5th St.
College
I attended Marshall Univ. full-time beginning in 1977. I graduated w/honors [Summa Cum Laude] with a BBA in Finance in 1979 followed with a MBA in Business & Commerce in 1980. I attended lots of other schools on military basis where I was assigned etc. I even attended Baylor Univ. in TX, Florida A&M Univ. in Florida and Florida State Univ. in Tallahassee.
Workplace
Not much history here. I pretty much retired from the Army in 1991 and didn't work much after that. What work I did do tended to go sour when I naturally tried to assert myself to the not so appreciative but longer serving employees. I did a little classroom teaching, some small business counseling through SCORE, and some accounting work. I did manage to earn another retirement check from the State of Florida as an employee of Florida State Univ. I did man...Expand for more
age to complete my PhD in Social Science & Business Education before retiring again.
Military
This is a long story for sure. I entered basic at Ft. Knox, KY 4/10/68 having already been married almost one full year and I retired fully on 1/1/92 [just over 4 months shy of being 24 years]. I've obviously seen and done a lot in that time. I was one of three RA soldiers in Basic and went next to Ft. Gordon, GA for AIT in electronics/ Avionics. I graduated with honors and was retained to serve as an Instructor until after our first child was born [7/23/70] and I was deployed to RVN. I turned 21 in Vietnam. I returned from RVN and was assigned at FT. Hood, TX before I reenlisted to go to the WVARNG in St. Albans, WV with the 111th Eng. Grp. and was the State Commo Sgt. during the big floods of 1977 before being reassigned to State Adj ofc. as the Sr. Enlisted Social Worker. I served in this capacity until I was was commissioned a 2nd Lt [8/22/80] and was assigned to Ft. Stewart, GA. I quickly distinguished myself and became Gen Norman Swazkopf's Medical Readiness Officer on Division Staff before being selected to become a Hospital Admin. and reassigned to Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN [Hawley Army Comm. Hosp.].
My next Command was as Cdr. of B. Company 97th Gen Hosp. in Frankfurt, GE before the Berlin wall came down and the largest military drawdown in history forced me into my final assignment as the Sr. Medical Assistor to all the Reserve and Nat'l Guard Medical Units in the State of Florida. From my final assignment at Patrick AFB, FL I relocated to Tallahassee, FL. to retire in 1991 at age 41.
Too many grandkids near Dallas, Texas so we had to move out here. We will probably die here someday but doing well so far (2024).
