Charles's Story
Life
Born in St. Paul, MN in 1954, grew up in the North End (Rice St/Front St), graduated Washington High School in 1972, enlisted in USAF that year; basic in San Antonio, tech school in Denver, Westover AFB and Barksdale AFB for duty. Honorable discharge in 1976; worked at Control Data in Bloomington for awhile; University of Minnesota Minneapolis 1979-82, majoring in history (AA degree).
Moved to California in 1982; that summer in San Fransico; US Festival over Labor Day; Arcata (in far northern California) that Fall until early 1989--working construction and hanging out.
Moved to Santa Cruz, California soon after the Loma Prieta Earthquake; seven great years working construction and enjoying the best place to live (that you can't afford) in California. Moved to Sierra foothills in 1996, worked construction until I injured myself.
Moved to Eugene Oregon in 2002; worked at Syman...Expand for more
tec for awhile in phone support, then went to Lane Community College to get an AS in Computer Networking. Moved back to California and the Sierra foothills in 2004, where I workedin a small technology company and enjoy Life. The company downsized me in early 2007.
Right after that I got a job on Wake Island in the Central North Pacific. It was a grand adventure, living on a small atoll with about 100 other contractors supporting the Air Force base there (which had less than a fifth as uniforms many as the civies).
In 2008 I came back and tried to find a job in California. Having no luck I moved back to Eugene where I found a great IT job with Cardinal Services in April, just a few weeks after moving here. I now live in Springfield, just across the river from Eugene, and enjoy Life!
I'm still waiting for the flying car Popular Science promissed me I'd have by now back in 1962.
