In the 70's after finishing at Vandy in Nashville, I ended up in West Point, MS, on the staff of the town newspaper, the Daily Times Leader. My first task as features editor was to photograph a seven-foot tall okra plant. No joke. Still have the clipping to prove it. I thought being a journalist would be much more glamorous. During my time there I moved over to the society desk for a time. I covered at least a thousand bridal showers, weddings, graduation parties. I tangled with the Coca-Cola company because the fad then was to have a "coke" party (you know, the green glass bottles with straws...)Each time I reported a "coke" party, I had to be sure to insert either the copyright symbol or TM, or be fined $100.
