Carole's Story

The Q I& A is limited. My history -- in a nutshell: Family: I am married to George Calhoun, who retired from the DOJ a few years back; we are owned by a Balenese cat named Spice Girl; although we have no children, we have nieces and nephews who are delightful and fun. My parents, whom some of you may know, are living independently in Central City. Approaching 93 and 92, respectively, my dad gardens, keeps up a huge lawn and fishes daily; my mom works crossword puzzles, cleans and bakes, and worries that she does get enough work done! My sister Jo and brothers Ric and Randy are in PA and doing well; Dolly (Dorothy), also doing well, is in California. Education: BA Juniata College; MA Bowie University; PhD Georgetown University. Career: Education Teacher and Administrator in Prince Geroge's County Schools in Maryland for 32 years. Taught courses for one year at UMD. Volunteer for the NSO, the WNO, Rehoboth Independent Film Society and Rehoboth Historical Society. This has to be more than anyone cared to know; however, I'll clarify some of the Q&A items. Reading, travel, music, and history rank high on my advocations. Something of a penny-pincher on many things, I have no problem with travel, much of it adventure: walking, climbing, exploring, and learning the history and culture of ot...Expand for more
her lands. I've climbed Macchu Picchu; trekked across Tibet; visited Saudi Arabia, garbed in a long black galabia that I dubbed a "suicide" outfit; surveyed wildlife in the Galapagus, and air-balooned over Cappadocia. In the mode of literature and history lover, I have had the good fortune to visit Europe often, and this last June, returned to England for a tenth visit. Opera became my "new love" after I retired. However, I enjoy all kinds of music. My "music mix" would include Verdi, Elvis, Puccini, Patsy Cline, the Eagles, the Beatles, Beethoven, and the Everly Brothers --what can I say? Reading is, and has been, a life-long enjoyment. I belong to three book clubs, and I never have enough time to read all that I want. Have a good book to suggest? I'd love to hear! Another passion of mine is theater. This was true before the "crawling hand" drama or "My Miss Brooks" at Forbes. Maybe it dates back to the Stoystown's "casts of thousands" production. Enough is enough! This goes beyond Q&A, but I would love to hear from some of you out there who shared a history at Forbes High School. Losing some of my good friends, two of whom were members of a quartet --the original Forbettes -- has made me aware of the importance of keeping in touch and returning to roots. Let me hear from you!
