Tammy's Story
School
Just so you know who I was....
My name was Tammy Underwood. Now I am
Tammy (Chavez) Guerrero
So many schools, so little time! My family moved to Shelton when I was in 6th grade. I was at Southside Elem, Shelton JH, and Shelton HS during my freshman-junior years, until my family moved to southern California mid junior year. I really missed everyone.
I attended Brea Olinda HS in California for last part of junior year plus senior year. Friends there were so nice to take me in when I had come so late in the 'game'.
I have stayed in southern California. I attended PCC which is now Hope International University and attained both an A.A. and B.A. I got my teaching credential and have been teaching (everything, but mostly first grade) ever since. I am currently back at Hope International University working on my master's degree.
I hope to say "hey" to some friends. I appreciate the welcome I had both in Washington and California.
College
I was impressed by some Shelton graduates that went before me and went to PCC (now Hope International University). I enjoyed my first two years of college life in the dorms and loved it all. It was a great experience. Crystal, Jennifer, Monica, Kathy... so many more great friends. Mike and Jill Hook became my daughters go...Expand for more
dparents, but I lost touch a few years ago and would love to find them.
Life! So much going on.
Currently, I am happily married. My husband is an awesome man that I am blessed to be married to. We met line dancing (yes, I listen to country music). He is sweet and considerate and extremely understanding and helpful. The poor guy married a woman he rarely gets to see during daylight hours anymore!
I have two great girls who are now 27 and 30 (in 2021). One is in education and the other is in politics.
I have been teaching (mostly first grade) for 29 years in Santa Ana (who would have thought I would use that high school Spanish and pursue it to become fully bilingual?)
A few years ago I was certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards, which is a certificate recognized all over the U.S. granted to "accomplished teachers" who prove their qualifications in all subject areas they teach, as well as their teaching abilities. I am honored to be counted as a National Board Certified teacher, since currently only about 1 1/2 % of the nation's teachers have earned this certification.
I have a master's degree in education from Hope International University and a master's in school leadership and administration from Loyola Marymount University.
