Hey everyone! Brian here and here's the story: So there I was...
I graduated from high school at Fayette Academy in Somerville, TN in 1998. That fall I attended the University of Tennessee-Martin in Martin, TN where I majored in Pre-vet and Animal Science with minors in chemistry and SCUBA diving. While there I joined Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and I participated in choral and Steppin' performances and a few comedy skits. I also developed a passion for SCUBA diving, completing 4 courses in SCUBA including a divemaster course. I had so much fun, I turned the college experience into a 5-year appointment and still managed to graduate with honors in May, 2003 with a pending application to attend vet school at UT Knoxville.
Unfortunately, following an interview and waiting list, I was turned down for admission into UTK's vet program and would have to wait a year to apply again. about my situation. He told me about Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts in the Eastern Caribbean. The school was American based and required 28 continuous months of study on the island, then 1 year doing clinical work at a vet school in the states. After graduation, I returned to my parent's home in Bolivar, TN and worked at Eads Animal Hospital in east Memphis. While working I investigated the Ross University, applied, was accepted, and began classes in January of 2004.
During my 28 months on St. Kitts I made many friends, learned lots of information, and had enough fun and adventures to last a lifetime. I got an incredible tan, drove 2 crappy jeeps, and met the 2 loves in my life: Elvis, my island dog and Emily, my beautiful girlfriend. Elvis, Emily, and myself (along with her 4 dogs) all returned to the United States and are currently residing in a house in Lafayette, IN while Em and I attend our clinical and final year of vet school at Purdue University. What a long, strange trip it's been.
