Sue's Story

Life My life since J-S.... My first real job was working with Dr. Ponzani as a dental assistant and some other dentist in Steubenville, who due to his behavior, I decided I would go to Kent State as dental assisting just wasn't for me. Anyway graduated and work as a day care director in Mason, Ohio for a few years. Oh yea, I got married right out of college to a great guy from Cincinnati. Then we moved to Denver (Morrison), Colorado where I worked in the medical field (Urology...some really great stories from that place and then I moved up (pun) to ophthalmology. In 1983, we had our first child (Erich), then in 1988 (Cassie) and shortly after (Josh) in 1989. Raising the family in Colorado was wonderful as we lived right outside the foothills to the Rocky Mountains and enjoyed the outdoor life as much as we could. I never really got the ski thing down but I would go to the resorts and try my best. The hills were just a bit higher there then in Ohio! I was a stay at home mom for a few years and then I began a job working with adjudicated boys, basically tutoring them which led to me getting a teaching job, but due to the stress of working with these troubled kids I left after 5 years and accepted another teaching job at a charter school. I really enjoyed teaching and after a while moved to another charter school for a better opportunity. I decided to go back to school and received a masters in September of 2004. By this time we had returned to Ohio due to family needs and my husband was able to get a transfer with Microsoft. We now live in Galena, outside of Columbus and have a nice home with some land. A real treat after living in Colorado where the houses are back to back. My first job after ...Expand for more
getting settled in was as a consultant for a firm researching technology in schools in low income school districts. It was so much fun and the experience was so rewarding. I also loved the drives that took me to all areas of this state. We have settled in and are becoming Ohioans again but we do miss the weather and all our friends in Colorado. Our oldest tried to live with us after he graduated from college but just couldn't do it and is now back in CO hunting, fishing, skiing and having a great time. In February, 2006 I had a kidney transplant (as I had the same disease that my dad died of in 1971). Thankfully, God was with me through this ordeal and I received a kidney from Chuck and Tammy (Leeper) Carson's youngest daughter. It has been 6 months since the surgery and we are both doing wonderfully! I am only working part-time as a technology teacher and technology integration specialist/coordinator at a private school. I was an online instructor for Jefferson Community College this summer and truly loved the experience. I hope to acquire a full-time position in a local college/university after I have regained all my energy. Our daughter will be attending University of Cincinnati this fall which will leave us almost empty nesters. As Josh will be a junior at Big Walnut High School and will be enjoying his third year on the varsity soccer team. They were the district champs last year so we are looking to have another great year this year. Pete and I celebrated our 27th year of marriage this month and we actually are looking forward to life after college tuition's!!!!! Six more years and counting! Well, I think that is all I can bore you with but I hope to see some of you at a reunion some day.
