Rebecca's Story

Life I never thought that I would leave my beloved Oklahoma, but here I am in the SE US wondering if you all are still there. My late-husband and I moved to Cordell, OK in 1999 after I graduated from veterinary school at Texas A&M, but we didn't live there long. I left Oklahoma in 2005 after our home in Cordell was destroyed by a tornado in 2001 then in the following year my husband passed away after a blood clot broke loose following his surgery. There were just too many negative memories in Oklahoma. In 2005 I met my current husband, Larry, on the internet and moved east to be with him. Anyway, besides my story of how I left Oklahoma...I am a veterinarian. I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma and then attended veterinary college in Texas. I love dogs. We have a Pomeranian and a blind Pekingese that we adopted from the shelter. I love country and western music, especially Waylon Jennings...I just can't believe that he has left us...as well as Hank Williams, Jr. and David Allan Coe So much has changed in these twenty-six years. I drive a Ford F-150 Lariat. I love surfing the internet...so much to learn!!! Like anything else, there is A LOT of garbage, but it has also expanded our ability to study so much that it is unreal. I am always the perpetual student -- learning is what makes life worth living! I play the flute and the piano and soon am thinking of learning to playthe guitar as well. I am also getting back to my Jewish heritage, studying Hebrew and the history of the people and the Jewish faith. I also found out that I have an anxiety disorder and a very mild form of epilepsy in which I do not have full-blown seizures, but I sometimes perceive things rather in a different manner from everyone else for just a minute or so. It is difficult to describe. I would never have found out had it ot been for the tornado. I started suffering from panic attacks after it, so I finally was able to receive the treatment I needed and during that ti...Expand for more
me the mild seizures were also discovered. It is a blessing that I have epilepsy, since it gives me an opportunity to experience a little of what my husband experiences since he has partial seizures. Talk about soul mates!!! We have so much in common that we both have epilepsy! Anyway, the epilepsy has finally given a name to the strange personality problems that I had in school when some of you all made fun of me and teased me mercilessly and I didn't know what was going on. Now I don't get treated like garbage anymore, but have made something really great out of my life wherein I help to improve the lives of both animals and people. Larry and I are deeply religious people who believe that everything happens for a reason and that you have to utilize the unique circumstances of your life in which God has placed you to try to make other people's live better as well. My husband Larry is from White Plains, NY. He is a very talented person with a big heart and he is the love of my life. He works in the delicatessen in Publix, which is a big grocery store chain out here in the southeast. He is Jewish like I am. He was still living in New York when the World Trade Center was destroyed by the terrorists and he actually saw the smoke from across the river. It was very traumatic for the people who lived there. So we are getting ready for Channukah as it is on 15 December this year. It is the festival of freedom and goodness knows we need to go back to our political sciecne classes and review the meaning of freedom. Larry's father was in WW II and he reminds us that "freedom is NOT free!" I would be interested to hear from some of you all and about how things are going with you...what you are doing with your lives. Let me know how things are going in Oklahoma, if you are still there. Perhaps we will return to visit next year. But, let me know what is going on with you. Shalom aleichem. And remember, "The dog's nose knows what no human knows."
