Jeffrey Manners:  

Life I have been living in Europe since 1982. First in Vienna, Austria. In 1995 I moved to Brussels. I have been working in the insurance industry in Central and Eastern Europe. From 1982 until 1990 I was the underwriting manager at AIG's joint venture underwriting agency European American Underwriters, based in Vienna. The other joint venture partners were the state insurance companies of Poland, Hungary, Romania and the Yugoslav republic of Croatia. In 1990 I left AIG to join Marsh. Between 1990 and 2006 I built from scratch a network of 30 insurance brokerage offices with 430 employees in 16 countries. Thanks to the catastrophic settlement imposed by Eliot Spitzer on Marsh, my position, along with 12,000 others, was eliminated. In 2007 I enjoyed a year off. In 2008 I was asked to join the MAI Insurance Group as their CEO. MAI is an insurance holding company with both underwriting and broking divisions. It focuses solely on Central and Eastern Europe. Although the corporate headquarters was in Budapest I continued to reside in Belgium. In 2015 I left MAI when the private equity equity investors, who had recruited me, sold their stake in MAI. I was planning on retiring, but a former competitor, the Prague based insurance broker Renomia recruited me to be a Senior Advisor to the Board. I resigned that position in April 2020.
