Joseph's Story
(Note: Just looked at this .. my, it's old! It's 2020 and I'm married (11 years) and living in Denver again! Since 2013! When I have time, I'll revise this... )
Hi. Thanks for looking me up here.
I've done pretty well staying in touch with a number of the friends I hung out with way back in Sterling Heights. How's the span of years affected you and your friendships?
And interestingly, as of late, I've also connected with some guys from grade school! That's a little amazing to me. And kinda fun.
If you're not a Gold member and want to connect with me, shoot me an email at jrmarchione at comcast dot net.
As for other background info, I found the Q&A rather limited in its scope, so I thought I'd write a little bit here. Let's see how brief a synopsis I can provide:
At present, I'm living down I-75, in Atlanta. Moved here in 2004. I had been visiting here for more than a decade, as my best friend had moved here in 1995. I grew fond of the city and the fun I'd had here, and when I got laid off again in Denver, I decided it was time to give the South a try.
This may very well be where I stay. After 45 years of living in places that get snow in the winter, I've been digging the moderate temperatures we get down here.
After high school, I went to UofM for a couple years, but only because everyone expected college to be the next phase. But after a couple years, with no clear calling or major, I split for Denver. Stayed there until '96, when I moved to New York for a few years. That didn't pan out much, as I found it to be a big, exciting, cold, lonely city. Back to Denver...Expand for more
. But you can't go back, you know? So after a few years there, here I am in Atlanta.
My work life focused mostly on marketing and communications jobs, both in the for-profit and non-profit sectors. But after another lay off in 2007, I've decided to diversify my risk and go off on my own. I'm now a freelance writer of marketing and corporate communications, and developing a client base so that I don't rely on any one employer for my livelihood. It's a lifestyle that appeals to me tremendously, because I can get paid for doing what I love, while avoiding Atlanta traffic!
Most excitingly for me, I met my life partner a couple years ago, while participating on a bowling league. (Note to self: write Classmates.com and tell them they need more options in the Relationship Status Q&A, like "Partnered.") We're not married like some of our friends are, who traveled to Massachusetts recently. But we're certainly committed in the same way, and that feels pretty good at this stage of my life. (UPDATE: Got legally hitched in Connecticut on May 15, 2009! Surrounded by family and friends, and had a blast for a week in Manhattan! Woo-hoo!;-)
So, enough for now. I came across some photos from Sterling that I managed to salvage way back then. (Okay, so I lifted them from the yearbook room right before we graduated. Most are from our junior year, and all were in the "reject" pile, so who knows where they would have ended up?) Posted some of them here; it's fun to see who you can spot in the rowdy section taken during a football game, I suspect. Hope you enjoy them!
Best regards,
Joseph
