Teresa's Story
Life
hi everybody--just wanted to say hi and this is what's up with me" I am divorced after 27 years of being married--I teach pre-kindergarten at private school in dalton, georgia. I have 2 daughter-oldest one is 28-married with 3 kids and the youngest is 22-engaged and attends college-no kids. I would love to hear from you all and if you have and info on a reunion-please let me know.. take care and hope to hear from you guys soon. love, teresa
School
Oh Lord, im not even going there-wish i knew then what i know now-now to the teacher--I suppose Mrs. Ivey would have to be my favorite. She was so caring and kind--she was such a friend to me and encouraged me-always willing to help and advise--she was also my sunday school teacher-a wonderul christian lady. As far as crazy memory--I remember the time when we were juniors and our class and the senior class went to Birmingham Zoo--the bus broke down and we must have played "Honky Tonk Women" on the jukebox a thousand times. There are so many wonderful memories I made with my friends and then, there are some not so wonderful memories. I truly do wish I could go back and re-live those days knowing then what I know now--my high school life would have been different. I suppose we all would do some things different if given the opportunity though. Oh well this walk down memory lane has been fun; I want to thank all of you who helped me make these memories..
College
Well. I remember my daddy saying I was majoring in "Spades" cause I played cards so much at college. I remember the road construction crew that summer and it's amazing they ever got finished with that project-but you would have to know the inside scoop on that one to understand. I remember riding the college bus with Lavonne and Tommy driving it--oh my gosh, those trips to school and back-and the chorus and ensemble trips -yeah we had a good time.. I wish I could go back to some of them now.
Workplace
I have done many thing...Expand for more
s during my working career, but I have been involved in hotel/motel business and childcare for the majority of my working life. After I graduated from Northest, I worked for some lawyers in Chattanooga-did that for a couple of years and then moved to Dalton and went to work for the hospital here. I did that until I got married and my husband and I worked different shifts so I quit and got a job on the same shift as he worked. Thats when I got into the motel business. I ran the front desk/ office/ payroll/daily reports etc... for about 9 years and then I went into childcare. At first, I taught preschool(3 yr old) and taught a couple of years for Headstart. In 2003(after heart surgery) I returned to college(after 29 years of no school) and earned my degree in Elementary Education. I always wanted to be a teacher-that's what I always wanted to be when I grew up, so that is one life's dream I accomplished. Let me tell you, college is ALOT harder than it ever would have imagined now. I thought I would have a nervous breakdown before I finished. I wish someone had told me before I enrolled in Dalton State that is supposed to be the 3rd hardest college in the state of Georgia(thats what i have been told several times). I know it was extrememly hard for me-but I didd well--I surpised myself and I was very proud of my accomplishment. I finished in the summer of 2004, but didn't go through graduation exercises untill spring of 2005. I continued to work at the same place as I had been working for the past 9 years, but the degree enabled me to become Lead Teacher and receive a nice increase in salary. I have worked at Dalton Pre-k now for a total of 15 years and am the Supervisor of the school, as well as a lead teacher. Currently, Amanda my oldest daughter is my parapro/support teacher. It is wonderful to be able to be co-workers as well as mother and daughter. I do enjoy my job and will most likely continue to work untill I can't any longer.
