Staci's Story
Life
Currently, I live in Whispering Pines, North Carolina with my husband Jon (Sargeant Major US Army), my daughter Abigail (born October 11, 2006) and my neice Tonya Minks (has been living with us since the death of her mother 2 years ago).
I have scaled back on my career as a Registered Nurse. I only work casual part-time in the intensive care unit. I left a full-time job with FirstHealth's Critical Care Transport after delivery of my daughter (it was the best single nursing job I have ever had). Note: I am a Marshall University Alumni!!!!
Only my sister (Rhoda Hilkey) and her sons, Rick and Jeff Hilkey remain in Ritchie County. Both of my brothers (Stephen and Tony Minks) live here in North Carolina. My father, James L Minks passed on October 29, 2001 and my mother, Gwendolyn O Minks passed June 29, 2006. I do visit about 4 to 6 times per year.
I venture to say that I am still the same crazy girl you knew from high school! (ok, maybe just a little more mild).
(March 15, 2008) Ok, update!!!! I am now a stay at home mom!! I am enjoying the change very much, but I am still as busy as I was when I was working. I ...Expand for more
do miss nursing, but enjoy staying at home with my daughter more! My husband and I are going to start trying for child #2 in April. Wish us luck!
(August 28, 2008) Happy Birthday to Janet Perkins!! Just a short note to say that Tonya (my neice) has started her Senior year in high school. It's bringing back memories. She has been living with my husband and I for over 4 years. She aspires to graduate and attend college hoping to become an animation artist. Ok, starting to feel like I should return to work. I am missing my career. I never thought that I would say that. Don't get me wrong, I love staying home with my daughter, but I feel it's time to return to nursing .... it changes all the time. My husband is currently deployed to Iraq, so keep him in your prayers.....we hope that he will return in Nov. On Oct 24, 25 and 26, I will be walking 39.9 miles with the AvonWalk for Breast Cancer in Charlotte, NC. I have raised almost $1000 and have about $800 more to go. My team as a whole has raised almost $34,000 toward breast cancer research. It feels great to be a part of something so large. Wish me luck.
