Patricia's Story

Life "What a long, strange trip it's been..." What have I been up to since high school? Well...I had my son, Lance right out of high school when I was 18. He's 24 now, towers over me in height and goes to my other alma mater UWM where he's majoring in some combination of psychology, biology and foreign languages and works as a supervisor in the computer lab. I couldn't be more proud of him! I went to UWM myself for a long, long time while keeping an active interest in the local music scene. I had a big red mohawk and sported a black leather jacket and combat boots for a while. I co-wrote an underground magazine called "The DNA Club" for a while, wrote some band reviews and did some PR for a couple of bands, too. I've seen some great live shows. I also kept up with my interest in dance and theater. I was in a local repertory production of The King and I and I was also in a dance company called Jazz Dance Theater. I took lots of dance classes including ballet, jazz, modern, African, belly dancing, and a yoga class here and there. I was a core cast member in a local theater troupe called Joy Farm that broadcast on MATA cable access television locally. That was a blast! I've done some travelling, too, and hopefully will do a lot more. I've mostly travelled within the states: Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Colorado, Ohio, Minnesota, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania and Las Vegas, Nevada - I won a trip from HBO and gambled my little heart out! Viva Las Vegas! I've also been to Canada (Quebec and Montreal), the Netherlands and East and West Germany. I would love to go to Europe again! I went to Germany as an exchange student in 1990 - just after the Berlin wall came tumbling down. I was there for 6 months in the dorms. Then I came back home and met my favorite singer NINA HAGEN and could actually speak to her in German! I came back and finished up my degree in German and Elementary Ed and graduated from UWM in 1995. I volunteered at Germanfest ...Expand for more
in the Children's Arts & Crafts area for a span of 10 years. Then I taught 4th grade at two different Catholic schools for 5 years. (Picture me as a blond among the nuns.) I was teaching in Cudahy and living in an apartment with my son, Lance on the southside when I met my future husband, Phredd. I finally found someone smart, cool, and funny - just like me! (and he cooks, too) We got married in 1999 by my future father-in-law at Messiah Lutheran Church and had our reception at Grant Park. (We refer to it as the "biker/nun wedding".) I had my youngest son, James, in December 1999. He is now 7 years old and incredibly outgoing, energetic, funny and smart. He keeps me entertained! After I had James I finished out my contract, and quit teaching. Everyone asks me why I left teaching. I really hate that question. I loved the kids and loved the teaching itself, but mostly couldn't hang with the low salary and left to pursue other interests. That ended up being a good decision. I went to work for US Bank in the call center for the credit card department and when the call center closed, worked in another call center troubleshooting credit card machines. That gave me the experience and technical expertise to land the job I have now at Time Warner Cable. I work as a lead on the floor in customer service. It's great! I get free cable and internet and good insurance (I finally have the movie star smile I always dreamed about) and a lot of what I do now resembles teaching for the most part. As a kid who grew up watchig lots of t.v. it's kind of cool that I now "work for t.v." even though I'm so busy now I never get to actually watch it. My husband and I bought a beautiful Bay View bungalow a few years ago that we are continually making improvements on - it's a labor of love! I like being part of the Bay View community I grew up in and raising my kids in the old neighborhood. I am at a great place in my life as of this writing and hope you are the same!
