After graduating from Pleasant Hill High School I attended Diablo Valley College for a semester and quickly dropped out. Wasn't ready to learn yet I guess. A week after I'd dropped out at DVC, I received my draft notice from Uncle Sam. The Air Force Recruiter wouldn't take me, due to a little jam I found myself in down in Santa Cruz in May of 1968 (Our exchange student Jose Ponte can fill you in on those details), so he suggested I go see the Navy Recruiter down the hall. Next thing I know I'm in the Navy. I spent the next four years in the Navy as an Electronics Technician aboard the USS St. Louis (LKA-116). We were in the combat zone in Viet Nam for two years, six months and seventeen days. Made some true friends there. After being discharged from the Navy I attended Cabrillo College in Aptos, where I met my wife of 44 years, Peggy Stone. She grew up in Capitola.
