Melissa's Story
Life
I am happily single. I have 3 kids. My son Cody is 16, my daughter Brianna is 14, and our newest addition is Hailie and she is 4yrs old. I own my home, which is in Bridgeport. I am currently in school at Kaplan University on-line. When I am through I will have a BS in Information Systems and Technology. I intend to move eventually. I just figure that if I am ever gonna do it I better do it now. I think we have simply outgrown our house. All in all we are happy and healthy.
School
Oh Dear Lord, Let me think...I think I crushed on Scott Benge for more than half of my school life. It was just sort of one of those puppy loves that tickle your toes ya know. My main squeeze growing up was Josh Dougherty. He was the love of my life forever and we still talk today. My favorite teacher was probably Mrs Roth. I always knew that I'd have an easy time in class. And if there was a test all ya had to do was memorize it from the answers she gave the night or 2 before.
I always wanted to be a Archeologist when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was an awesome idea. As it turns out, I never went in that particular direction.
My fave way to relax is to ...Expand for more
read or write. I keep a journal and write poetry. I actually am a published poet. You can read some of my work on Poetry.com. I am listed under Melissa Ghent. Then, sometimes just going for a drive and singing does the trick. Other times I just need to go out and drink to remind myself that life does exist without children.
My inspiration comes from wanting the absolute best for my kids. I want them to have the easiest transition into the world as possible.
I've learned so much from being a mom. I learned to listen. I never realized how much I didn't until my kids pointed it out. I've learned how easy it is to forget what it felt like to be a kid. It is so important, I think, to remember that. You can't relate to your child as well if you just expect them to do as you say. I talk to my kids about everything. They are never embarrassed to talk to me about anything. Sex, drugs, smoking, girls, boys...everything is open for discussion. I don't just wait for them to bring it to me. I always ask questions and talk to them.
I absolutely cannot wait to get my degree. I have wanted this for so long. I am going for gold now. I will settle for happiness though.
