Thomas's Story

Life Wow, where do I start? Well, those that knew me, probably know that I always wanted to start my own software company. Well, I started several, but never really got that far and chose the security of married life and a full time job. I am happily married and have two children. Brandon is 8, and Tommy was just born in August of 2006. Both of my children have represented life changing events, but I must say that Tommy by far has molded my life the most. Just before Mother's day last year, we were told that there were serious problems with our unborn child. The diagnosis that we were given meant that Tommy would only live for minutes once he was delivered. My wife, being the peristent one that she is, did a ton of research and found a specialist in Cincinnati, Ohio. We ended up deliverying Tommy on August 1st after being flown from Chicago to Ohio because Tommy decided he did not want to wait the extra two weeks (which would have still been premature) that the doctors prescribed. After 8 months in the hospital, we were finally able to bring Tommy home with us. Tommy has a trach and is on a ventilator, but ...Expand for more
aside from that, he is a happy one year old who is trying his best to catch up with the rest of them. In addition to managing an IT support group and being a Father, for all intensive purposes, I am a nurse for the remainder of the day and night. My wife has all the wonderful jobs of a stay at home mom combined with doing alot of work that a nurse would do. We would not trade it for anything right now, except to have a healthy child, but he is doing well all things considered. Considering all that the doctors predicted could be wrong, and when given that wonderfull smile that Tommy greets us with, we feel that we have truly been blessed with a miracle! My father passed away just before Brandon was born. Shortly afterwards, I decided to follow up on a dream that I had when I was younger. I always wanted to build a kit car with my dad. Not one of those small models, but a full blown car. I ended up building a replica of a 1965 Shelby Cobra. I do not get to get out in it much these days, but it is a memory that will stay with me for a long time. Brandon was able to help a little, he was only five at the time.
