Ann's Story

I am the proud mother of four children. Three girls and one boy. I am also the grandmother of 5 grandchildren with another one on the way. I graduated High School and went on to Business College-Jamestown Business College where I earned an Associates Degree as an Administrative Executive Secretary. After graduation, I began working odd jobs and then took time off for the most important job of all---raising my children. I have recently gotten back into the job force . I am divorced and living life for me now. My children are all grown. I cherish sunrises and sunsets, and fresh open air, and I try to live my life one day at a time and I try not to sweat the small stuff. When I find a friend who's worth holding on to I try not to let it go. I could have gone on to bigger and better things but that would mean more stress and that is just not me. I have a job, I am putting back a little money, I am enjoying my children and grandchildren and just generally living life. I am happy and at peace. I would love to reconnect with some of the people I went to school with. I am so far away from the place of my youth. I moved from New York to Michigan for about 10 yrs and I am now in the beautiful state of Tennessee where I have been living for about 16 yrs.. I remember my first year at Harvey C. Fenner. It was 1st grade and I was the new kid in school and I was not well liked. We were playing kick ball and someone, I don't remember who, threw the ball really hard between my feet and I tripped and fell and went down. As everyone stood around watching, two boys came over to help me to my feet. I remember thanking them then and knowing that whatever happened from that point on, I was going to be okay. I would like to thank those two men again. Thank you Burke Walker and Kim Johnson. If you are out there, know that I never did forget your kindness. I made other friends as the years went on, some of you I never really made friends with, but when we graduated, I had learned to respect you and all that we as a group had accomplished. Thank you all for being my classmates. My first job was at The High School Office , where I got paid weekly to print copies of homework assignments, notices to go home, answer the phones, deliver messages, file papers, some light typing, etc. etc.. What I remember most about it is It got me out of study halls .. My oldest and dearest friend was Janet Green. I am so sorry that we let time, space and other obstacles widen the gap between us. I would really like to know what happened to her. Another friend that I remember is Barbara Black. Now that we are older, maybe we can mend the rift that fromed between us . Another friend I remember is Connie Giddy. What happened to you Connie? And Carol, I can't forget her. Carol LaMonica and I got to know each other better closer to graduation and I grew to respect her. The last time I saw any of you was at our 16 yr. reunion. That was a few years ago. If I could go back and change anything, I don't think I would change a thing. I am a firm believer that every thing happens for a reason and that if I had the opportunity to go back and change anything that I would be changing the person that I have finally become and I like that person too well to change anything about me. I have learned compassion, understanding, unselfishness, strength, courage, stamina and a whole host of other qualities through the ordeals and joys that I have had in my life. I share my home with noone, which I find to be very peaceful. I don't have to worry about who I am or am not making happy, I have noone's schedule other than my own and I am loving it. My whole life has consisted of doing for others and now I am doing for me.. For those of you who are curious about what I look like now, if you remember how I looked in School, that was the way my mother wanted me to look. As for now I chose my own style. It is casual and comfortable. I do not go to the store to buy designer clothes or name brands. I shop for all my clothes at yard sales and flea markets. I love it, I can find stuff I really like, that looks good whether it is in fashion or not and I don't have to spend a fortune on my clothes. I am generally a very thrifty shopper. The thing I think I despise most is showing up at a store on sale day and having to fight my way through to get what I want. I can think of much more relaxing ways to spend my day. If I had my choice of teachers that I would like to see again I could not choose one. There are several that stick in my mind but two that I would really like to thank. Mrs. Haney was my first grade teacher. Forgive me if I spelled that wrong. She reinforced the ideals of respect that I learned from home, and taught me at a young age that these ideals extend beyond the home. Thank you Mrs. Haney, wherever you are. The other teacher that I would like to thank is my shorthand teacher and forgive me but with age her name escapes me. She taught me to reach for the stars and never underestimate your ability. She taught me what try try again really means and because of her, like the pheonix, I can rise from the ashes of a disaster and begin again, knowing that I will be okay. Thank you wherever you are. I have several everyday heroes, people who have taught me how to be forgiving, how to see the best in people, not the worst. There are too many people to mention but if I have known you, and you have touched my life in any way, than you are my hero. My inspiration comes from living life and the people I get to know while I'm doing that. I have never stopped learning and I have never forgotten who I was, who I am or where I came from. If there is anything that anyone is curious about about me, all you have to do is ask. You will find that I will be completely open and honest with you because I have been through things in my life which have made honesty one of the most important qualities to me.
