Melissa's Story
Life
Having a daughter who is currently a Junior in high school has brought back so many memories for me, as well as making me feel very old! (I was a Jr. in 1982-1983!) Thinking back on all the nights that I piled into Steve Dickerson's little Mustang II along with Tina Coffey and Bo Cates for our weekend outings still makes me giggle, especially when I think about how we each had to contribute our quarters for gas! (I'm wondering if Steve can still pinch a penny hard enough to make Lincoln squeal!!)
I recently survived my 41st birthday and will be celebrating my 13th wedding anniversary to my wonderful husband, Randy, on November 11th. My only child, Jessica, is a Junior in high school and will be turning 17 in November as well. I inherited three stepchildren when Randy and I married. Even though they've never lived with us, they still managed to keep us pretty busy when they were younger. Dusty, my oldest stepson, is a Junior at Rhodes College and is currently studying abroad in Africa. Ryan, the middle stepchild, just started his first year at the University of Alabama and aspires to become a chemical engineer. Last of all, my stepdaughter, Madison, is in her Junior year of...Expand for more
high school. The girls are only a month apart in age so we always manage to have a good time when the three of us are together!!
Olive Branch, MS became home for our family when Randy and I married. I really enjoy the smalltown feel here, but retail therapy is somewhat limited. Even so, I'm still close enough to Germantown and Collierville to feed my shopping habit on a regular basis. I work full-time as a Sr. Compensation Analyst so I still have to travel to Memphis on a daily basis, but watching the deterioration of the city is pretty depressing for me. I've been at Medtronic (Spinal & Biologics Division)for almost nine years and love my job, but I keep hoping that someday,we can relocate to an area where home, work, and play can all occur in the same community.
For those who know me well, marriage #1 was a total disaster -- just as everyone said it would be -- but Jessica was the ultimate reward of the relationship and thus, I can find no regret in that "detour in life". Life today includes being married to my best friend, having a career that I love, and watching my daughter grow into a beautiful young lady....and praying all the while that her life contains no "detours".
