Jennie's Story
Went to OSU after graduation. Got my bachelor's degree and fifth year in Home Ec. Ed. Summer after my junior year, I married Paul. This year will be our "40th anniversary". How's that for love and devotion?!?
While still in Oregon, I worked on a state vocational curriculem guide for training high schoolers to work with and teach pre-schoolers. The program began in one school and I became consultant for 2 more schools in Lincoln County who began their own programs. The curriculem guide was used in several areas of Oregon and Washington. I also developed learning materials and designed pamphlets for the WIC prgram for Lincoln County. We had our first child, Craig, while still in Oregon.
Moved to the state of Maine after 7 years of marriage. Got my master's in family life. My supervising prof presented my thesis at a regional conference and told me I should get my doctorate. BUT, my hubby said that I had to stop going to school someday and earn back some of that money I spent going to school. As it turned out, about half of my teaching years was in Christian education which paid less than minimum wage (mor...Expand for more
e like a missionary ministry). So, needless to say, I didn't earn much money that way. But through the years I have done a lot of things to earn some of that money back: cakes & floral arrangments for weddings / hair & corsage flowers, and arrangements for proms and graduations /painting or etching portraits for people / clothing construction (I even had my own Shriner's clown in Maine for whom I designed costumes) / tutoring / designing and making grad cards for seniors. While in Maine, we had our second child, Amber. Both children grew up in Maine (Amber was the only true "maine-iac").
We now live in Tennessee and love it here. We will have 8 granchildren in May. Even though I am officially retired as a teacher, I still volunteer to teach elementary art at a near-by Christian school and am loving it. I also teach people to sew. AND, I now earn money selling my machine embroidered, customized to fit Bible book covers on EBay. It's fun and I 've met a number of really neat people.
Life is good and I am enjoying it. Being a Christian helps as the hard times are not so hard when you have the Lord as your guide.
