My last 50 years. I graduated in May 1957 from HHS. Two weeks later I went into the Marine Corps. Why the Marines? I had an uncle who served in the Marines in World War II and my Dad was a Seabee in the Navy in WWII. My Dad landed on Iwo Jima with the Marines and he told stories about the Marines landing that day. I served 3 years on active duty and 3 years in the reserves. While in the Marines I went to the Atomic, Biological and Chemical Warfare Defense (ABC) School. I made the highest grade in the class and they invited me back to become an instructor. I taught Biology and Chemistry at the school. When I was released from active duty in June 1960, I took a job with Trust Company Bank in Atlanta and also enrolled at Georgia State University at night. I got both my bachelor's and master's degree from Georgia Sate on the GI bill. Later I picked up an Associate's degree and a Law degree. I always enjoyed school and in a way I became a professional student. I always wanted to learn new things and to broaden my knowledge.
