Douglas's Story

My first job was at golf course, where I got paid 75 cents to caddy a round. What I remember most about it is the copperheads. Jimmy Benedetto who was cooler than the Fonz. In 10 years, I hope to be running 35 miles a week. I'm going to get there by Keepin' on keepin' on. I share my home with one wife and two cats (Smoky and Fuzzie Butt), which I find truly alarming. Yikes. Selling beans for Herman Talmadge in GA. I live in very relaxed clothing as much as possible. It's always possible. My best friend would tell you I'm crazy as hail, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as just nuts. First crush: Rachel Cook? Haven't heard a word by or about her for 46 years! My current age is 63. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be in the rest home. I was so completely optimistic. To be truly happy I'd be just me. (But for this story's sake: living and writing in the Adirondacks, the Smokies or Maine. After living in Dallas for 20 years, I cannot abide HOT.) If I won $100 million, I'd give all of it to my...Expand for more
children, then spend the rest on me. It would be some kind of miracle, bec I don't gamble. Period. Ask Tommy DeBord why. Tommy DeBord!!! You there? I'd like to see my teachers Clifford Frizzell, Donald Womack, and Thad DeHart. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the squash court and add on a lacrosse field. My dream home would be a cabin or underground. (Except for that last part -- I'm KIDDING.) My biggest surprise was living to be 48 y/o. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Jim Benedetto, because he was the best friend I have ever had. I've lived in Atlanta, Dallas, NYC, TN, West Virginia and, now, north central PA. I like the city, I dislike suburbs intensely. Especially fond of healthy small towns. Pink Floyd is my hero... not Ferris Bueller. Hike Watkins Glen or Buttermilk Falls (both in upstate NY) or run. (I've been doing small chunks of the AT.) I always wanted to be a Park Ranger when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a strange idea. As it turns out, they were clueless. But ... so was I.
