Jan's Story
It's astounding that 50 years have gone by since we all donned our graduation robes and celebrated the end of high school. It will be great fun at the reunion to share the histories we have made for ourselves since that day and note plans we have for the remaining years. I look forward to this reunion and thank all of you who have worked so hard to make it happen. The rest of us are in your debt!
Currently, I live in Camarillo, CA (north of Malibu and south of Santa Barbara) with my husband, Rick Demonsy, who will be at the reunion and will try to entice folks to share the "stories" I do not want him to know. Please do not yield to his requests -- he will have far too much fun teasing me after we get home.
Life gifted me with two wonderful children, Holly who married the greatest son in law, Jeff, and Brook who married the best daughter in law, Katie. Fortunately, each couple produced even better gifts, five grandchildren. Holly's family live in Venice, CA & Brook's in Evanston, IL.
After going to law school in Chicago from 1983-86, I practiced a short time there, and moved to Los Angles in 1987. From 1987 to 2016, I practiced in California, primarily with Selman Breitman, LLP, as a Partner in the Los Angeles Office. As a civil litigator and appellate ...Expand for more
attorney, I obtained several published opinions regarding insurance coverage before California Courts of Appeal, California Federal District Courts, and the Seventh and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal, including the following cases: Scottsdale Ins. Co. v. MV Transportation, 36 Cal. 4th 643, 31 Cal. Rptr.3d 147; Amerisure v. Scottsdale Ins. Co., 795 F.Supp.2d 819, affirmed at 695 F.3d 632; and Big 5 Sporting Goods v. Zurich American Ins. Co., 957 F. Supp. 2d 1135. After 30 years of practice which I truly enjoyed, I retired in May 2016.
Retirement is just great!! There are so many rewarding ways to "give back" ; my favorite focus is American Association of University Women. I've also had opportunities for civil duty -- to work at the polls and serve as the jury foreperson on a 30 day criminal trial (guilty). There's time to engage in hobbies which was never possible before. I have a rose garden and grow vegetables -- I know -- pretty boring, but there is something quite down to earth about it that I like. (no pun intended) Rick and I like to "hit" the gym several times a week and I put in 15-20 miles a week doing the "daily constitutional". We have also done some traveling, but look forward to many more trips to see the world and meet new friends abroad.
