Thomas's Story
It's been a long time since RCHS...seems like another life. Rushville is my hometown and I always love going back, although I don't recognize anyone anymore. Lots of new faces, and the familiar faces...I can't remember their names. But enough of this!
After graduation I spent a year working at Schnadig Corp. stuffing seat cushions. One year later it was off to the big city and Indiana Central University (BS accounting 1977). After graduation, it took some time, but I landed a job with the Rushville National Bank. I worked there for almost nine years. In 1988 I took a position with the Greensburg Savings & Loan as their accountant. I loved working there! It was a small association with a friendly atmosphere...the hours were great too. After I left, it was purchased by a larger association, and the building sold to Hilliard Lyons & Company who completely restored it. If you're down in that area it's worth a look. Greensburg is beautiful, and I have fond memories of my years there. With the new Honda plant, the future looks bright for my former home.
The last 10 years I've been working for the State of Indiana. I'm presently an accountant for the Indiana State Department of Health. Love the work, but the workflow is a little much at times. Indianapolis is a great city to work in. Summer walks around the circle are a nice diversion from my job, and always looked forward to.
I am married, and my wife Elaine and I call Richmond, Indiana home. Funny, when in grade school I played basketball for St. Marys against Holy Family, St. Andrews, and St. Marys...all Richmond grade...Expand for more
schools. Now I attend those school's churches. Never in my wildest dream would I have imagined Richmond as my eventual home.
I use to hate flying, but since I met El we're jetting somewhere a couple times a year. We've been all over the US, and someday hope to do Great Britain. Attending a British Open at the Old Course would be my way of checking it off our list. The neatest place I've been is Moab, Utah. Nestled in the canyon lands of southern Utah, it is flat out beautiful!
Don't have any hobbies except for golf...actually, I guess it's a passion. I'm getting better as I get older but I won't live long enough to actually be good..HA HA...that's a small joke. I play in the St. Mary's Open every year at the old Rushville Elks course. It's enjoyable to see old familiar faces. Catching up with former teachers like Jack Brown and Bill Gray is always a highlight of the afternoon.
I'm still a huge Purdue fan (20 or so Bucket games in a row for me...thank goodness we've won most of them). I've loved the Colts since I was a kid. It was a dream come true when they moved to Indy in 84. Now they're winning Super Bowls. What a rush the 2007 game was. I called in sick the next day! Started going to the 500 in 1983, and have been back every year since. It's a long afternoon, but always a great time. Hopefully the reunification of open wheel will make Indy a tough ticket in the future.
That's about all there is. I'd love to hear from any of my former schoolmates, friends, or acquaintances. If you want to get in touch, leave a note on this site or call me at (765) 977-7827.
