Carol's Story
This is my story:
Went to hairdressing school in Portland, ME after high school.
Worked at it for a few years, but it wasn't my thing.
I went back to work in the telephone company (had previously worked for them while in high school), took advantage of the tuition program. I got a degree in Business Management at Newbury College/Boston.
I married Clifford Magee from Fryeburg, ME, but divorced after two children and 10 years of marriage.
Married again in 1976, but husband passed away years later of Alzheimer's Disease.
I am now married (12 years) to Tony Prata (civil engineer) and am very happy.
My children are as follows:
Craig Michael Magee. He has a wife (Valerie) and three children, Ashley, 10; Chloe, 7; Andrew, 5. Craig owns his own tile company and they live in Groveland, MA.
My daughter is Katherine Gale (Magee) Zafirakis. Her husband is Nikos Zafirakis (contractor) and 1 daughter, Gina (19). She lives with her boyfriend in Londonderry, NH. Katherine and Nikos live in Candia, NH. Katherine graduated from college and went in to the banking business. She was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She had a complete mastectomy and reconstruction. One year of pure hell, but she is now cancer free. She...Expand for more
is not working as a manager of a bank anymore. She works 32 hours a week at Northeast Credit Union in Concord, NH. She is trying to alleviate stress. The #1 killer.
Tony and I work part time only. I got a full pension from the telephone company after 26 years and then went to work for Axcelis Technologies Semiconductor Company here in Beverly, MA where I live. I stayed there for 11 years. I retired from there in 2006. Since that time, I have been contracting for them 2 or 3 days a week. Any hours or days that I choose to work.
I also went to school for horticulture and for 1 year, worked part time for New England Foliage Company taking care of plants in many corporations throughout the North Shore. After going to Florida for a month in January, my boss was not happy with me taking the time off, so I quit that job. I don't know what his problem was because he knew I was going to do that when he hired me. Oh, well, didn't need his aggravation.
Tony is an civil engineer (project manager). He works in Peabody, MA. He has cut his hours down to 2 days a week. Semi retirement is great. He golfs a lot and loves every minute of it. I love to garden. That is my passion. Needless to say, life is good these days.
