Donna's Story

I wasborninPensacola atthe Maternity Hospital. My Dad, Floyd Stanley was civil service so we moved a bit. We returned to Milton when I was in the 4th grade. I went to Berryhill Elementary School, then Hobbs Middle and then Milton High. My family lived on Orange Street. We attended Ferris Hill Baptist Church and I was active in Girl Scouts and Rainbow girls.I was the President of the Health Occupations club. I love Mrs. Freida Nichols for her influence on my life. I love Ms. Peters, Ms Zorn, Ms. St John, and many others for their influence on my life. I really did not like high school that much though. I started college at PJC in the 10th grade and went to college throughout. After graduation in 1976, I moved to Mobile Alabama and attended Mobile Infirmary Mobile College Division of Nursing. (Now called University of Mobile) I spent 2 years there and received an AS in Nursing and my Registered Nursing from the State of Florida. I already had a General AA from PJC. I worked at Baptist Hospital in Labor and Delivery (no place for a 19 year old LOL) I got married in 1978 to a guy who was in the Navy, James (Andy) Anderson. I had a beautiful daughter, Christina Kay Anderson, in 1983. I left Baptist Hospital after one year and went to work at West Florida Hospital on the psychiatric unit. I LOVED it and work at a psyc nurse...Expand for more
for 11 years...my parents say I got a lot of home training... LOL. I left the psyc unit after one of the pharmacist on staff eloped from the the unit and killed himself across form University Hospital. I went through the depositions etc. I thought....it may be time to expand my resume... what a sad time for all of the staff at the Pavilion. I started working in the Case Management Dept and remained there for 4 years. Then I became a marketing/evaluation nurse for the physical rehab unit at West Florida. Throughout this time I was busy raising my daughter. I loved being a mom. Unfortunately, my husband and I divorced in 1988. We remained on friendly terms, which was a blessing. In 1990, I married my current husband, Phillip Gambrell (we are separated)We have been married 25 years (March 2015)Phil''s children, Lisa and Paul moved in with us when we married. We had fun and challenges as all couples do. Blending families is difficult but has many rewards! Presently, I am the principle for Brightway Insurance. We own 2 locations, Pace,Fl.and Bayou Blvd. Location. I am enjoying being a "Mawmaw". My granddaughters are Gretchen age 8, Kyndall age 5 and Lauren age 2 months. My grandchildren by marriage are Brandon age 19, Justin 17, Pacer age 10, Maile age 6. My mom passed in 2012, My Dad is still alive and well. Praise God!
