Cherie's Story
Married Jim Swaters in 1974. Still married 36+ years later. Wasn't easy but...
After a false start at Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in 1972, I graduated from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in 1979 and Webster University with a BSN in 1985.
We have two children, a son Bradley born in 1980 and a daughter Rebecca born in 1982.
I've been a nurse for over 30 years - wow! that sounds so old! Nursing and health care has changed so much in that time and I really am ready to get out! However retirement is a distance away yet. If I could just win the lottery - oh yeah - I'd have to play it to win it. I have been working in the neonatal intensive care area for 30 years, the past 7 at Children's Mercy in Kansas City. I love to sew, read, and play with my cats. Camping and canoeing are a couple of activities Jim and I enjoy together. I am also trying to get back into riding my bicycle so I can join Jim on his rides - neither one of us are into long distance rides, just relaxing and fun rides.
I was very active in my church, however after several years of overextending myself, I have backed off. Learned how to say no - and not only at church.
Jim and I are empty-nesters but still there for our kiddos. Rebecca is married. Brad is unmarried - but I am always looking! I have no grandchildren but do have 3 grandcats and TNTC grandfish (not in the same house - the cats are Rebecca's and the fish are Brad's.)
