Gilbert's Story

It's 3:32am as I'm starting this so forgive me if I'm a little incoherent. Let's what have I been doing for the past nine years? Well I did go to college for a few years, didn't get a degree through. I was studying computer programing. If I didn't suck at the whole 'what is the symbology/analogy/metaphor of this story' type stuff then maybe I could have passed English 201 and maybe gotten my ass. degree. In 2000, I think, I started working at a Circle K, what are now called Stripes. I worked the graveyard shift 11pm to 8am on the weekends while going to school during the week. Piece of advice never work the graveyard shift at a convenience store cause drunk people will come in and try to buy beer after it is too late and they won't want to believe you about it being too late. Stayed there for three years until one night this guy pissed me off, I yelled at him and accidentally spit a little on him while yelling and the next day he came in talked to my manager and I was fired. In retrospect I deserved to be fired for blowing up like that. I very briefly worked at a Speedy Stop for one month before getting fire because my drawer came out short a few to many times. I swear I wasn't stealing it just came out that way. Back in 2002 I had moved in with my sister and her kids. Now in 2003, I was unemployed and she was starting to work cause her boyfriend had left her. We heard that the workforce center would help her pay for babysitting so she could work. We went down to see if we could set it up where I would get paid for watching her kids while she was at work. Well it worked well enough that I didn't need to get another job. This lasted a year then she lost her job and ...Expand for more
I was only getting paid to watch the kids while she was at work so that killed my income too. So in 2004 we were without income for a month until I found a job at Jason's Deli as a Deliverator. Did that for about a year until I totaled my truck but my boss was cool and let me start working inside as a busser. After a couple of months I trained as a backup meat slicer then the head slicer quit. I train a new guy to be the main slicer but he only lasted a couple of weeks and so I was made head slicer. However I still bussed tables during lunch for a few weeks until my manager set me to run the pickup window. I stayed the slicer/window person for about three years. This was the best job I had ever had. I grew to really respect and like my boss a lot. I was friends with most of the people I worked with and I felt a sense of pride in my work. I quit 7-29-08 due to my old boss leaving for a higher position in the company. I gave the new boss almost two weeks but I didn't feel that he had any real concern for the employee's. So I quit. I applied at Star Tek and got hired within a week of quitting Jason's Deli. So I guess I could put some personal stuff here but I don't feel like it. If you've made it this far and want to get back in touch with me, my email is Konani_y(at)yahoo(dot)com If you really want some personal stuff visit my LiveJournal at gillian-y(dot)livejournal(dot)com I've only been there for a a little over a month at this date(8-03-08) but i update at least every third day usually more often. note: This site is weird about email and web addresses so in the above replace what's in the () with the appropriate symbol. Well that's it. It's now 4:45am and I'm done.
