Rosemarie Tucker:  

After high school, I attended Powelson Business School, in Syracuse, NY (on the advice of Mr. Vassalotti) and began working at Cornell University as a secretary in 1967. After working for over 20 years at Cornell University, then other places in between, I retired from the City of Ithaca's Department of Planning & Development (Executive Assistant for 10 years) in October 2007. I decided to retire young and continue my hobby of local history and family research. I was not interested in history in school -- but Mrs. Court told me, "You're going to get this someday.", I became interested in 1975 when my grandmother asked me to research our ancestors -- I was bit! I was appointed by the Groton Town Board in 2001 as the Historian for the Town of Groton (New York) and have been reappointed each year since. In October 2005, the Town furnished me with an office in the Town Hall on Conger Boulevard. I have completed and submitted my writing for the reason that some of the streets, roads and areas in Groton are named as they are and it was included in "Place Names of Tompkins County" (2004); in 2007 I researched and wrote a touring brochure for the Town of Groton ("Touring the Towns of Tompkins County, New York: Destination Groton") and am now working with Arcadia Publ...Expand for more
