Andrea's Story

Well... Most would remember me as a class clown who liked to party and skip school and was lucky to graduate since I was highly allergic to homework. Oh yeah, and I was voted most likely to die talking. Although I still talk a lot, everything else has changed :) I met my husband in 1998 and we were married in May of 1999 and I was very lucky to marry my best friend! We lived in Gresham, OR for a couple years before he was promoted to Assistant Manager for the Les Schwab in Chehalis, WA. We lived there for 6 years. During that time I was a housewife and later stay-at-home mom which I loved. I was the secretary for the local pro rodeo committee and also a 4-H leader. In 2002 we had our first child, Meredith, after many years of trying, in 2004 she was joined by her little brother Isaac. They are totally the lights of our lives. In 2006 Aaron (my husband), was promoted to Manager at the Les Schwab in Colusa, CA, only 690 miles away... Colusa is a small farming town in northern California, about an hour north of Sacramento, so thankfully we didn't end up in the big city. After moving to Colusa we became involved in various organizations and have kept VERY busy. About a year after moving here I went to work part time as a reporter for the local newspaper, I loved it. Unfortunately 8 months into my stint, they were bought out by a large corp. and I was no longer allowed to write at home. This forced my hand and...Expand for more
I had to quit. After a couple months of bumbling around trying to decide what I wanted to do, I came up with the idea to start my own newspaper. Thankfully I have been able to meet so many people in our short time here, and I think that is why my paper has been so successful. I made my own little twist, no more "If it bleeds, it leads." The paper (The Williams Pioneer Review) only features stories from our county that are positive. I figured if people wanted to hear all the bad stuff they could read it in another paper or find it online or their tv. My first issue came out Feb. 22 of this year ('08) and it was 8 pages. My plan was to bump it to 12 in September. I never expected it to take off like it has, I have had two 20 page issues and the rest 16. Thankfully it only comes out twice a month since I am wearing all the hats; publisher, editor, advertising, delivery... you name it. It's a lot of hard work but it's pretty cool to work for myself and work from wherever I want to and still get time with my family. So, things are good, I no longer party (hardly ever drink, I know, shocking), I have no journalism experience other than my one year as a reporter, yet I have managed to create a popular publication... Who woulda' thunk it? Certainly not me :) Life is great, not making millions, which would be great, but not necesary in the whole scheme of things. I am just thankful to have a happy, healthy family.
