Joe's Story
I retired from the Air Force in 1996 and went to work as a civilian meteorologist at Buckley ARB in Denver from 1996-1997. I got "burned out" with weather and went to Farmington, NM and tested for their police Dept. Passed all the tests but tore my Achilles tendon on the obstacle course, so ended my short police career. Moved back to Pennsylvania and worked safety and security at PPG research center in Allison Park. Started to miss weather so got hired as meteorologist at Grissom ARB, Indiana and was there from 1999-2000 till contract changed. Got a call from my old AF base (Beale in Northern CA-there for 7 yrs in AF) and they wanted me to take the job that was open there, I did. I lived in No...Expand for more
rthern California from 2000-2003 when my position was deleted. Luckily, the weather field is a small and close community, a meteorologist job was open at Edwards AFB in Southern California (50 miles west of LA in the Mojave desert). I said I'll take it. I've been here since 2003 and plan on staying a long time. Love the desert. Love being an hour from LA and 3 hours from Vegas (go there 4 times a year). Love the job and I am good at it. Plus, I get to see every aircraft the military has/gets and get to meet and talk to the NASA shuttle crews every time they come here for training. Pretty cool.
I do follow the HS football team on-line and want to say good job Jeff, team has been impressive.
