Jan's Story

I've been in Louisville, KY for 32 years now. Really condensed summary: Lived in Cherokee Park and worked 12 years in the recruiting industry and then married and had twin girls and went back to school while working at their private school as Librarian for 5 years. (It was not a quiet library.) Lost the impetus to get a teaching degree and finished a BS in English, Writing instead a few years ago then started graduate school at U of L to work on a Masters in English and writing. Got a grant to work on a historical fiction (novel) in progress that I'm still getting around to finishing so I can start on another one I've got in mind and just hope I can convince a publisher to buy! In the mean time I make a living recruiting engineers (again!) for the steel industry, working about 3 days a week. Now I'm going to cut and paste a bunch of stuff I already filled out for my Facebook profile: I love travelling, reading, writing fiction, flower gardening, making jewelry, cooking, eating new places for, uh, "recipe research" - yeah, that's it. Also, photography especially macroshots (superclose-ups) of flowers, bugs, funghi. Interests:Like to study all sorts of things: history, nature, Bible, latest technology. Love going to school and until recently I was research asst to Eng professor at UofL, mostly 19th century stuff. Also love drama and sometime I also write and perform in dramas occasionally at our church.Favorite Music:Folkmusic, Blue Grass, classical, worldmusic, oldies from the 50's-70's, some contemporary christian such as Mile 7, Jars of Clay especially Redemption Songs, Big Band. I like to ...Expand for more
listen to all sorts of stuff depending on mood -Bare Naked Ladies, Charlotte Church, Josh Groban, Joan Baez, Dylan, Michael Buble, Alison Krauss, Il Divo, Peter Paul and Mary, Julie London, Monkeys, Pete Seger, Moody Blues, New Main Street Singers, and one rather obscure soundtrack we got hooked on in France: Le Roi Soleil. Favorite TV Shows:The Office, 30 Rock, LOST, lots of cooking shows (Everyday Italian, Paul Dean, Nigella Feasts), House, Boston Legal, Pushing Daisies, Craig Ferguson, Saturday Night Live, Men in Trees, Desperate Housewives, Prison Break...OK this sounds like I watch WAAAY too much TV, but, hey! we TVo it and watch in fast time minus all the commercials late at night. Now Extinct Faves: Arrested Development, Red Dwarf, Absolutely Fabulous.Favorite Movies:Les Choristes, Room with a View, Grossford Park, ALL the Christopher Guest mocumentaries (Mighty Wind, Best in Show, Spinal Tap, and more), anything Robert Altmann or Woody Allen or Merchant Ivory, most Hitchcock, lots of foreign drama.Favorite Books:Easier to narrow it down to authors probably and why - EM Forester, Kate Chopin, James Clavell for Hong Kong and Japanese history, Ken Follett for WWII history and his thorough research, Dave Barry or Bill Bryson for something funny, 19th century Brit Lit in general, Cyrano de Bergerac for poetic fun, Barbara Vine for current British murder mystery of an atypical sort, Beth Moore for in-depth study of the Bible. Recent great reads: Time Traveller's Wife, (Follet's) World Without End - sequel to Pillars of the Earth, Lynn Rossetto Kasper's How to Eat Supper (Splendid Table).
