Virginia's Story
After Graduation:
After graduation I married John Norton of Memphis, Texas whom I divorced within a year of our marriage.
I then married Tom Branham, Sr. and moved to Midland, Texas in 1966 where we raised our three children.
When my youngest began school I started working for the Midland Independent School District Cafeterias. I worked for nine years at Alamo Jr. High, six of those as the manager of the kitchen. I then went to Lee High School as the manager there for three years. During this time I also worked a second job at a grocery.
My husband has been employed as a car salesman, CB radio store owner, and then a car lot owner both in Midland and Big Spring, Texas.
Our children loved to join their cousins in Knox City for summer and school breaks visiting their grandparents, Mary and Truman White. Due to their bad health I brought my parent¿s home to Midland to live with us in 1980. We lost my ...Expand for more
dad not long after that and mother died the following year of 1981 there in Midland.
My husband and I moved to his family farm in Big Spring, Texas in 1985 after the graduation of our youngest daughter. We lived there for 16 years enjoying our children as they would visit and bring our grandchildren to run and play on the farm as well as hunt and fish. We have since moved to an apartment in Big Spring due to our health.
After moving to Big Spring, I began to work for Wal-Mart. My employment at Wal-Mart started with cashier, then I moved to working within the departments, then to the UPC office, then Automotives, then back to receiving where I stayed until my stroke in 1998, which caused me to take an early medical retirement.
I currently enjoy going to church, visiting with my friends, and going sleeping. I love to see my grandchildren any time I get the opportunity. They are the prize of my lifetime.
