Thomas's Story
Who am I, really? I graduated from De Anza J.C. in 1968, went on to San Jose State, Reagan took away the classes in my Major, so I went to work as a Machinist at Hewlett-Packard on Page Mill Rd., here in Palo Alto.I took the early retirement H.P. offered in 1987, when they closed down the shop (H.P., the co. that "never lays off". I'm presently unemployed, and will take another early retirement, to collect my Social Security starting on my 62nd birthday coming up in 2010. I really can't afford the high cost of living here in California, and plan to retire to a tropical paradise; Puerto Escondido, Mexico by October of 2010. Since I speak Spanish i think i will have no problem enjoying life there. I have my retired Harley-Davidson Police motorcycle from 1992, and am presently converting it for motorcycle touring, which i plan to do in my retirement. I like travelling, culture and americana. I like to read also, and plan to buy 3 books recently written about life in Palo Alto in the '50s and '60s, that I saw on Amazon.I remember the Clark Bros.; we worked after school at The donut shop on the corner of Middlefield and Loma Verde. Also at Busch's Restaurant on University Ave. My girlfriend at the time was the former Christine Mullin. I lost touch with Bob Pemberton and my other hot-rodding buddies. We were gearheads, in those days they called me a greaser (you were either a surfer or a greaser). I had a blue and white '56 Ford that was really clean.I used to cruise with Eddy Medina ...Expand for more
looking for girls. After that I had a black primered '51 Ford. Boy those flathead v-8's sounded sweet! Those were the best times; cruising the A&W drive-in on El Camino Real, and drag racing on the frontage road of Bayshore Frwy (we had a 1/4 mi. marked off. Remember the old Paly Drive-In? I bet you do! How about cruising up to the "9 holes" (golf course On Page Mill Rd.)! We had a '62 409 Chevy. With 425 h.p., we had a lot of fun. Remember the rich kids with the '64 GTO? Going 160 on Bayshore, they beat us on top end. Bob Pemberton's '53 Stude with the 425 Caddy motor never got beat, 'tho. He flew up in the air at a canal crossing doing 125 mph, got airborne and landed it in a tree. Good memories I have of you guys. I married Renate Lawrence in 1966. We had 2 kids; Renee and Ted. We're divorced now, that's life, I guess. Well, that's all for now...
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Christine Mullin, because I still have the hots for her.
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel my brain and add on a hard drive. My dream home would be 10 terabytes.
If I won $100 million, I'd give all of it to starving kids.
I was in Stanford U's Big Brother program; going to the football games was great.
I wear the same blue jeans, boots, primary chain motorcycle belt and black Harley shirts every day; haven't changed in 30 years.
I share my home with my dog, which I find friendly.
In 10 years, I hope to be dead. I'm going to get there by drinking heavily.
