CLASS OF 1982

Joseph's Story

I have had this account for four years and haven't found the time provide a story of what I have done since High School. Just in case I don't make it to the all class reunion, here goes. I don't mind writing what I am about to write. I have nothing to hide. I believe in honesty. My life has been shaped by good experiences and some bad experiences. A few bad experiences occurred before I arrived as a freshman at Don Bosco Tech. You learn more from the bad experiences than the good ones. And you move on with your life. What have I been up to? Here is just a few things. I collect diecast model cars (1/18 scale). I took piano and voice lessons after I got out of college (I still can't carry a tune. I am baritone. I am no singer.). I became a NASCAR fan at age 31. I am godfather (three times now). I am an uncle and a great-uncle. I developed a taste for jazz and bourbon (But I only drink it on the weekends). I still have a low tolerance toward alcohol. I only drink at home. I only drink beer or wine when i go out. I now own a house. I like old cars from the 1930's thru the 1970's. I have not traveled to many places in this world. I missed a chance to go to the 2014 Daytona 500 this year. It fell on my fiftieth birthday. I'll try for next year to cap my fiftieth birthday. I enjoy being a bachelor. I am still open to marriage. I have slight preference for brunettes over blondes and redheads. When Charlie's Angeles was on TV, I preferred Jaclyn Smith over the Farrah and Cheryl. (I believe brunettes have a slightly better grasp on common sense.) I have known more brunettes. Blondes are a close second. (I actually own more diecast cars - over a hundred twenty - than women I have known. But the number is getting close.) I am trying computer dating. No luck yet. A few nibbles. I'd rather meet women at the supermarket. People tell me I look younger than my actual age. I haven't abused myself with drugs, smoking or heavy drinking. The best years of my life were the years right after college up to age 35. The really best years were b...Expand for more
etween age 26 to age 30. 1992 was a very good year (and summer.) 1993 was a close second. Life was good - a good car, a good job, a closet full of good clothes and a fair number of female acquaintances. I have been friends with woman who is of another faith for thirteen years. There is ten years between us. We are just good friends. The past few years my siblings and I have been caring for an elderly mother. She is now in a good nursing home. My father passed away in 2004. I now own my sixth car - a 2014 Malibu LT. I still own number five - a 2002 Maxima SE. I went back to my first love - Chevrolet. I believe the USA can build cars just as well than another country. The first car I owned was a slightly damaged 1974 Chevy Caprice. Mom and Dad helped me buy it. The purchase was made before graduation. I got 5 1/2 years out of it. My late father and I kept it repaired. We had too. I had to pay my own college tuition bill. Professionally, I am an electrical engineer. I used to work for an electric utility. I presently work for an engineering consulting in Boston. The company is a mechanical, electrical, fire protection, plumbing and telecommunication engineering firm that specializes in designing such systems for hospitals, medical research buildings, and college/universities. It's a great company. I work with a really good, solid people. I have been there sixteen years. I do mostly small reno projects and assist on larger design projects. Politically, I am a democrat. I don't support the far left of the democratic party. They are to liberal. Even though I'm a democrat, I firmly believe that marriage was always meant to be a spiritual union between a man and a woman. Anything else is just a civil union. I am pro-life, but I believe that pro-choice people have rights too. I believe in universal healthcare. The USA is the only industrial nation that doesn't have it. Well, it is Saturday evening. Time to go out for dinner. I'll update my story soon and not four years from now. Peace. Joe Paul, Jr. Class of 1982 Industrial Electricity
