Evelyn's Story
High school was not easy for me because I was, and still am, too much of an individual to be part of a group. My 5 years at UVic were very empowering. In 1972, I graduated with an Honours in Education then, after 5 months of planning and saving, I took a leap of faith and, on my own, headed to the South Pacific. For one amazing year, I taught art, history and geography at a girls' high school in Suva, Fiji. I met my husband there. He was on holiday from Sydney, Australia and stopped to ask me for directions. t was a whirlwind romance! Since 1974, I have lived in Sydney. I am still very happily married and have a grown-up son and daughter. Now, after a record 45 years of teaching at one Sydney girls' high school, I am officially retired but I regularly enjoy doing casual teaching there. In my spare time, I am a keen artist, independent traveller, hiker, gardener and home renovator. Life has been very good. In spite of the 2020-2021 bushfires, Covid-19 and floods craziness, I am staying strong and I am very thankful.
