Patricia's Story
After High School I went to Stout University, hoping to get into Fashion Merchandizing only to find out that Really I should keep clothing design as a hobby. At the end of my sophomore year I started discovering other options. Math seemed to be of interest and so was helping people. I spent the summer as an occupational therapis aid at St. Lukes. After which I switch colleges and went to Whitewater making my colleges years 5. I graduated with a BSE in Math (major), computer science (minor) and secondary ed (minor). I taught high school and junior high prior to graduating and decided that business in the computer realm would be the best occupation for me. In 1986 I married Brian Jaeger, whom I met on my first job at First Wisconsin as a computer Programmer. We lived in West Allis for 10 years and then moved to Elm Grove where I still live. We never had children but spent 30 wonderful years travelling the world and making some wonderful friends and memories. Brian died suddenly in Oct. of 2006.
My career during those 30 years and now has covered MANY jobs. I worked as an employee for FIrst Wisconsin, M&I bank (edp auditor), Blue Cross (programmer analyst), Allis Chalmers (Analyst/programmer lead). I decided in the early 80's to try something new. My husband, family (parents) and brother in law and I decided to create a new company and start automated insurance quoting for independent agents. THis business thrived for over 10 years until we decided to close the doors. During that time I also taught for MATC and worked with the Jewish community center and CETA to help retrain people who were losing their jobs. THis training was to give them the edge in their fields. I found that this opened up the door to also teach other courses and help establish new courses from the emerging computer occupations that were starting up in the 80's and 90's. I started my own consulting business with students who became clients. In 86 I decided to work as a big company contractor and started wearing 2 hats - one for mainframes and the other for PCs. That has actually continued up thru today.
Now as for the social life... I loved to travel. So Brian and I took every advantage to do so especially since we did not have children. We were not tied down to our home. We have travelled all over the US...Expand for more
and Canada via car trips. History - natural and cultural were fascinating. We have seen the mountains, deserts, oceans. We've tried sailing, making new friends and visiting them in Idaho, Florida, California, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Arizona. we've seen the Alamo, painted desert, grand canyon, meteorite crater, Williamsburg, New Orleans, Kitty Hawk, Boston, Washington DC (smithsonian etc), upper New York (watkins glenn). We've travelled many countries via cruise ships - roatan, carribean, Florida, east coast, Canada, Alaska, Panama canal, Mexican Riviera. We visitind Europe via a NATO tour to England, France, Belgium, Luxemburg, Germany. Brian's work gave us the opportunity to visit Scotland. And we spent a wonderful week in Ireland. I was able to take a retreat with some girl friends to Greece and meet up with a friend that I taught back at MATC thru the CETA program. And I took another trip with the girls, Colorado, to get a taste of the Rocky mountains in spring with lots of hiking, commeradery, horseback riding and late night fireplace talks.
I am now trying to grow my PC business. In between I have been growing my circle of friends and trying all sorts of new things like kayaking with a new friend. I love to take bike trips on the trails in our city. I love to go out with friends to dinner and catch the plays at the downtown theaters and community theaters. Dressing up to go to these events and going to a nice dinner really makes the evenings special. Once in awhile I volunteer for a couple theaters like Skylight and the Pabst to help out and see the productions there.
Life is rich, when you make it that way, and WAY too short. SO my motto has been: be the best and live the most.....
You might see me doing some volunteer work teaching for the Tosa Rec dept or at the Milw Catholic Home teaching the folks there.... Or just maybe flying a kite downtown, taking up a segway lesson, visiting a special event like body worlds at the museum, wandering around at the domes to look at the flower exhibits, visiting one of the concerts in the park (when summer), attending a political Tea Party, or just snuggling up with a blanket when it is cold outside and either watching a good movie or watching a fire crackle in the fire place.. and talking with special friends ...
SMILES....
