As you know, I'm a fake grad of Mars Hill, having been part of the short skirt housecleaning of 1971. I left Bradshaw after the junior year for Lipscomb,graduating with an accounting degree in 1976. I married Dick Posey (MHBS '74) in 1977 and had three children. In the meantime, I went back to school for a master's degree and teaching certificate in Secondary English. I taught 5 years at Mars Hill (ta da) then moved with my family to the Hickory, NC, area when Dick took a job with a furniture manufacturer there. I taught high school for 12 more years before leaving in 2007 to teach at Caldwell Community College.

three children. Laura and her husband Chad Troup live in Nashville with their two children, Avery and Stuart. John is out of college (Appalachian State University, three-time football national champions, thank you very much) and living at home while job-searching. Ben is a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill (Go Tarheels!)
I have been very active in National Council of Teachers of English and the North Carolina English Teachers Association, serving on their board for the last ten years. I do some freelance writing, particularly book reviews, several for the Charlotte [NC] Observer. I also blog about books at discriminatingreader.com.
I write poetry and will have some poems in the online publication of the Dead Mule School of Southern Literature in November 2009.
Dick and I are semi-empty nesters, but we stay busy.
