Susan's Story
After High School, (like, the DAY after) I left to seek out the big city lights of California. That lasted for three years when the traffic, smog and people got to me! So, in 1979 I convinced my best friend I had met in California to come with me and we moved to a more scenic area, a little town called Aspen, in Colorado. I fell in love with this town and settled in.
I soon met my husband, Jim, a graduate of MIT with a wicked sense of humor, a gentle disposition and the ability to cheer me on in whatever endevour I embarked upon. We were married in 1982 at Calvin College seminary in GR. We had two beautiful girls and enjoy life in the mountains. He has been working as Director of Data Processing for the City of Aspen and Pitkin County since 1977.
I've been in the travel industry for over 25 years the last 15 or so with Ski.Com as a 'ski vacation specialist'. Anyone in our 'ski club' in High School, who saw me snowplow down the slopes would be amazed at my...Expand for more
prowess on the mountain today! LOL!
Last year I obtained my Real Estate license, hoping to cash in on the Aspen Real Estate Boom! I sold a one bedroom condo for $517,000.00 and the economy crashed! As usual, my timing is perfect.
In 2003, tragedy struck and we lost our first born, Jennifer Marie. She was almost 21 years old. Of course our lives changed forever, but our marriage stays strong.
Our daughter Megan who just turned 21, has a HHP (Holistic Health Practitioner) degree. So far, each massage I've gotten from her costs about $15,0000. I'm hoping she'll get a job that actually pays her for those skills! She's the light of my life and her giggle is contagious.
I volunteer for a local group called RESPONSE. It's an advocacy for battered and abused women.
I still marvel every day at the beauty of the mountains around me and am always grateful for it and the friends I have made in this special place.
I would love to hear from any of my old friends!
