Suzanne's Story

The short story of a long life I left Shepherd in 1964 right after graduation and went to Columbus Business School in Columbus, Ohio; transferred to Ohio State University and then to Penn State University. In 1967 moved to Washington, D.C. and was recruited into IBM. I lived and worked in Washington, D.C., and New York City for seven years. In 1973, I met my husband who was also with IBM and we married in 1974, he was a San Francisco resident, so I moved to the West Coast. We lived and worked there moving to temporary assignments in other parts of the United States and international locations for a short period which included Iowa, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Singapore, and Paris. We remained San Francisco residents and always returned to our home there. I worked for IBM for 35 years and retired as VP of Complex Systems. It was a wonderful career, meeting many wonderful people, and traveling to incredible places. We had three wonderful sons and while my professional life was exciting and rewarding, our sons were the greatest achievement. They are wonderful people who taught us more than we taught them. They have gifted us with seven grandchildren and we adore sharing their lives with them. In between, we travel two to three months out of the year and live between Phoenix and Los Angeles the rest of the year. We...Expand for more
have traveled to over 110 countries and continue to enjoy the different cultures in the world and have found we are more alike than different. Life has been a great adventure and having the children travel with us and now the seven grandchildren who are complete joys. I remember my days in Shepherd as being a very pleasant place to grow up. I sometimes feel saddened that my life took me so far away, I have lost touch with so many people, but remain in contact with two of my old friends, who remain as lovely as they were in high school. and I treasure knowing them. Well, so far so good, we made it through Covid as did all of our family members, some became ill but because of the wonders of medicine and the great vaccines created no one suffered greatly. It is the late Spring of the year and we are getting ready to leave the hot desert behind and move to the beach where we enjoy living on the ocean and only a few short miles from two of our sons and our youngest grandchild. My other grands have grown up and pursuing their talents. One will marry this year and two graduating with their Masters in a couple of weeks. All is well in our family. Robert and I look forward to a restful summer, with intermittent trips abroad for weddings and the great Opera's of Verona in Italy. May God Bless all of you and keep you safe.
