Colleen's Story

Right after High School I went to Kenosha Tech and graduated with Dental Assisting and Dental Lab, I worked in several Dental offices. Then in 1995 I graduated from WCTC with an Associate Degree in Police Science. I was a Reserve Police Officer with the City of Waukesha Police Department for 8 years until I retired working my fulltime job at the same time. It was such a good experience! May 2013 Well it has been awhile since I shared what is going on with me. I am really enjoying this warm spring weather. I have moved back to Mukwonago. A few weeks ago I watched my oldest grandchild walk down the pathway in the school gym at Prom. She was beautiful and her date wasnt bad either. It brought tears to my eyes how I was able to watch her grow from a small baby to a beautiful woman inside and out.I also recalled the dates I went to Prom, Homecoming and the Sweetheart dance with on court and off. Thiose were sweet days full of fun and excitement. This winter I have enjoyed watching another of my grandchildren play basketball. Nat is awesome. She is an excellent defensive player and such a team player. She loves the game and is very good for her age. Looking forward to the summer months off to the beach or pool with my grandchildren with a packed lunch and blanket in hand and a full cooler. I dont babysit but sure enjoy spending time with them. And then there is always a camping trip somewhere in the state with all of them and their parents. Swimming, go carting, campfires, dinner, walks, treats and happy times. Enjoy the summer classmates!!!! Well 2014 is almost upon us. Christmas is less than a week away. I love the Christmas season. In fact starting in November around Thanksgiving I start going through the packed Christmas stuff things that I have collected over the last 20 years since I have been divorced. So many of the items have been gifts from my children. And everyone has a special memory. I especially enjoy visiting my daughters homes to see the excitement, the smells of the season and all that they have done to make Christmas special to everyone who visits and their family. I so enjoy watching my grandchildren play sports. Natalie is playing on a 7th grade Mukwonago Basketball team and she is awesome. Maddie is playing also on a Mukwonago Basketball team she just turned 9. And she really enjoys the game too. Megan is at college in MN and is coming home today for Christmas break. My youngest grandson just turned 19 months and is a real cutie. My son's children have moved closer so hoping this summer I will see them more.Well classmates Happy Holidays!!!One thing I haven't gotten used to are these WI winters. So I will really be glad when spring is here.August 2014 In December 2013 I purchased a seasonal trailer up north so I have spent most of the spring and summer enjoying the warm weather. It is a fixer upper but it came furnished. I spent December to April pitching things that I didn't want. The campgrounds is on a lake and has a swimming pool which I have really enjoyed. And the campfires in my front yard. 4th of July weekend all my children and grandchildren spent a long weekend with me. 16 of us. we woke up to a campfire and ended the day with a campfire. My grandchildren got to know their cousins just a little bit better and everyone had a great time. Summer is almost over and kids will be back to school within a few weeks. My oldest granddaughter turns 19th tomorrow and she will also be returning back to college starting her 2nd year. I plan on spending the fall here to and enjoy the crisp change of weather. The trailer is a 2 bedroom with a large add on room and a wood burning stove. There are several things I would like to do but nothing has to be done. I weekly enjoy cutting the grass and also the small amount of yard work. I found the trailer on Craig's List and got an excellent deal. When I put a bid on it I saw what could be done with a few things that I had and what a remarkable change from when I purchased it. One of the nicest benefits are my neighbors and the friends I have made. This summer has been so much fun, a little work, just enough to keep me a little busy in my retirement. I would love to spend part of the winter in Florida especially after the cold temps last winter. But that might have to wait a year or two. Hope you my classmates have had a great summer too! October 2014 Where did 2014 go? Last weekend was the last weekend of camping for the season. I enjoyed 10 family for the weekend. Children and grandchildren. The temps were cold and in fact there was a frost. I had the wood burning stove going non stop and while outside a campfire also. Lots of laughter and stories from the times we had shared together in the last 21 years since I have been divorced. During the summer when family came up for the weekend we set up a tent and ate outside. But because of the cooler weather the last of October we slept inside and at ate inside. I am able to sleep 12 inside. My oldest granddaughter is back in college studying her 2nd year. She is on a partial swimming scholarship and is on the St Cloud swimming team. She is also a Sportscaster for a Minnesota TV station and does a very good job of bringing up to minute coverage interesting to her viewers. My granddaughter Natalie who is in 8th grade at Parkview plays on the Basketball team for Parkview. I watched her play last night. I must say she is pretty good for her age. About me. Most of the summer I spent enjoying the warm weather at the pool and lake with no visitors. Although my neighbors are great. I am looking forward to 2015 for what it brings. Since I try and live each day as my last hoping it is filled with excitement. Here is to a healthy, wealthy and wise 2015 to my “70”classmates. November 19, 2014 Thanksgiving is here already. Deer Hunting opens this Saturday. I plan to go through my Christmas decorations this week and start to decorate. I will make a day trip to the trailer on Saturday I have checked the temps and it is suppose to be warm. Not good for the deer hunters but it will be perfect for my day trip. One of my granddaughters has had an interest in going deer hunting for some time. She also enjoys ice fishing. But she has never spent a long time in the woods before. I was a little concerned about her exciting adventure and since she was going out in the woods for the first time to just observe I wanted to give for a piece of advice from my first hunting experience without a gun. Fearing that I might get lost I decided to take several pieces of bread along and make a trail as I walked just in case I got lost or someone I was with got hurt I would be able to get back to my parents cabin. So I shared the life saving suggestion with my granddaughter and she looked me straight in the eye with a twinkle in her eye, "grandma I am not going to do the bread thing, I will have my cell." I laughed and said," oh honey grandma didn't have a cell when I was small." now I don't have to worry about her first experience in the woods. Man have things changed since I was a kid. Happy Thanksgiving classmates!!!! January 6,2015I do believe I enjoyed the best holiday. Oldest grandchild will turn 20 this summer and youngest grandchild will be 3 in April. The excitement of spending time together can not be replaced. I cant imagine life without their love and being apart of their lives. Lots of basketball in the next few months and hopefully a vacation in Florida this winter. And then I cant wait to get back to my trailer in early April. I am so enjoying my retirement. Here is to Health, greater Love and greater Happiness to all of us in 2015!!!!April 12,2015 I spent 12 days in Florida in March and the weather was beautiful, in the 80's. I did not want to come back to WI weather. Next year I would really like to spend a good part of the winter. This past Saturday I drove back up to my trailer with a car load of stuff. I will spend most of the spring, summer and fall here. I enjoyed my first weekend back and plan on a campfire this afternoon as I work on a few things inside and enjoy the warm sunny day outside. I hope everyone will also enjoy spring whatever you got going. July 22, 2015 Our 45th Class Reunion is August 15th at 6pm at Half-Time Sports (on the square). A good Year filled many challenges. I so enjoyed spending the spring summer and fall at my trailer. This summer I spent much more time at the pool swimming and slipping a few lemonades. My son was in a horrible car accident on May 1,2015 was flown in by Flight to Life from the scene. He was in a comma over a month. A miracle that he made it through it. So the first week of the ordeal I slept at the hospital. As a mother the most heart felt thing during the time of no improvement was how his sisters, brother in laws, nieces, children, friends, co-workers and girlfriend and her family stood by his side. Hour after hour minute after minute. It was especially hard on his sisters and nieces. Both of his sisters are RN's. He is doing very well now. Looking forward to 2016 and all that it brings. Hoping a few weeks of vacation in Florida! March 2016 I just got back from spending 2 wonderful weeks in Florida on a sister trip to visit my aunt in Clearwater Beach. We had so much fun and I so enjoyed the warm sunshine. I spent as much time as I could watching the boats and dolphins on the bay. I also enjoyed spending the afternoon with my high school classmate Michael Allen and his beautiful wife Mimi. They live in the Tampa area and drove down we enjoyed some time talking about MHS on the gulf. Back to the trailer in a few weeks.June 14,2016 May started out being cooler weather at the trailer having to have a fire in my wood burning stove but the end of May and June has given me much time to enjoy the pool. Memorial day weekend 6 of my grandchildren spent several days with me without their parents. From ages 15 to 4. We had a blast swimming at the pool and lake and sitting around the campfire. Several weeks ago I enjoyed seeing Mike Humke for a drink. After 45 years. He and his wife live in Pewaukee,WI. I am hoping that all of MHS classmates have a safe and fun summer.December 26, 2016 Another year is about to end. My oh my 2016 went zooming by. Spent Christmas with my children and grandchildren. Lots of laughter and fun. Santa was good to me and so were my children. I got a golf cart heater and cover for when it rains or is a little cooler. Golf carts poker runs are the trend at the campgrounds. I finally bought an older model this past summer. And did my kids enjoy that treat of driving all over. I can't wait until spring gets here. Happy New's Years classmates!March 8,2017 Enjoying vacation in Clearwater Florida. Visiting my aunt with my 2 sisters. We have been enjoying Florida's weather for a little over 2 weeks. I have to figure out how I can spend the whole winter down here. Hate thinking of the cold WI weather that is still left. Tomorrow hoping to spend the whole day at the dock on Clearwater's Bay. Well classmates here is to an early spring!September 21,2017 I can't believe that summer is coming to an end. Summer was filled with amazing campfires and lots of time at the pool. My son in law Kerry painted the outside of my add on room on my trailer in April. It looks great. I have ventured out and tried many new recipes this year. And have had a lot of fun doing it. I have enjoyed having family visit for several weekends. Plenty of room setting a tent up also in my yard. Spent the days at the pool. Son in laws took care of breakfast, lunch and supper made on the grill. A wide assortment of good food. My oldest grandchild is now 22 and has graduated from college. She the Head Swimming Coach at a local Madison High School and works at a Madison Radio Station. Natalie my second oldest is 16 and she is starting her junior year at MHS. She has recently been visiting several schools that are interested in her to attend their school and play basketball for them. My youngest grandchild is 2 and a joy to my heart. Well classmates enjoy this fall season.January 2,2019 I can not believe 2018 is over already. I spent time at my trailer this summer enjoying the pool as much as I could. My children and grandchildren are the joy of my life. My grandchildren range 23 to 3. Natalie turns 18 in February. She is a senior at MHS. She is captain of the Girls Varisty Basketball Team. She has a full scholarship at IUPUI Division 1 for Basketball. She is an excellent offense and defense player. A team player. I can't wait to watch her play in college. I see my grandchildren often. I plan on spending several weeks in Florida this winter. I am still single and looking to met a man to share retirement with. Well classmates hope we have a great 2019 November 2019 This past Thursday I made a trip to IUPUI to watch my granddaughter Natalie play on the Womens Varisty Basketball Team with my family. She had a very good game double digit points excellent defense and played 23 minutes. How exciting to see her play. I spent alot of the summer by the pool often bringing my lunch down to enjoy the sunshine. My brother-in-law our classmate Roger Coggon passed away from cancer. It was a very sad day for me. He was such a good man.OUR 50TH CLASS REUNION IS AUGUST 22ND AND AUGUST 23RD. WE ARE PLANNING ON DINNER ON SATURDAY AUGUST 22ND. AND SUNDAY TAILGATING AND THE BREWER GAME. Another year has passed. Because of covid I was able to spend much more time with my children and grandchildren. That is outside. The weather was warm and there were many days of swimming and an afternoon lunches. Because of the beautiful weather social distancing was still possible to enjoy the outdoors. Today is the last day of 2020, I'm so glad. May 2021 be filled with many days of excitement and good times. We have had a hot spring and summer so far and very little rain. In March my daughters asked me to join them to a trip to Florida. We had beautiful weather. They rented a beautiful house close to the beach. We stayed in Sarasota. The beach was spectacular. There were 11 of us that went. My 2 daughters their husbands my oldest granddaughter and her husband and 4 additional grandchildren and myself. We had so much fun. I'm spending at my seasonal trailer enjoying the pool alot. Several of our classmates have left this year. It is very sad of their passing but they will always be Class of "70" MHS students. Now there are no more assignments just well done on anything that is attempted. I had an interesting year 2021 several health needs. At the end of this summer season I moved to Waukesha. I live in a condo close to Racine Ave. I was able to take my time moving in. I live alone and almost finished. The garage is the last thing I have to rearrange. This fall I'd like to make several day trips. And meet up with some classmates in the area. I no longer have my trailer in Pardeeville which was a very hard decision to make. I loved POA. And i have many good friends there. My condo does have a pool and I hope to search out some good fish fry joints in the area. Enjoy the fall. Hope we will soon see each other.
