Sharon's Story

Hi All, It's nice to see some familier faces on here. I don't remember alot of people due to the fact that I only went to IHS for my senior year. I really hated Grayson County when I moved there because my father retired from the Army. I came from Stuttgart Germany to Grayson County at age 17, talk about culture shock. But I lived in Grayson for the next 25 years and I grew to love it. It's my home, the place where my father grew up. It has to be the most beautiful place in the world. I worked at the public library in Independence for 11 years and I loved it. I got to know so many people. I re-located to Statesville, NC in '98 and I've been here ever since. I raised my son alone, I got a divorce when my son was 8 years old. We got here in time for him to start the 4th grade, I didn't want him to come in "new" after they year started, like I had to all my life. I have have several good jobs down here, trouble is, these company's keep shutting down. They've just figured out in Washington what is going on in the real world, I could have told them we were in trouble when all the factories in Grayson shut down and went south. I'm currently unemployed, I was the Administrative Assistant to the Store Liaison at JC Penney Logistics. Everyone was worried about the Christmas Season. And yep, not good. I just got back from Independence, was visiting my mom. Took her to...Expand for more
a couple of doctor appointments. She's not doing too good. We take turns visiting her, trying to keep someone around. Lost my father in '95 to the effects of Agent Orange that he was exposed to in Vietnam. I've never felt a loss like that in my life. Still hurts, guess it always will. I wish there were jobs in Grayson for the young people. Like they were when I got out of school in '76. We've seen alot change since '76. I wanna go back, (Eddy Money; great song) but I can't go back I know. I've learned that life can throw you a curve at anytime, no matter how old you are. I've also learned that I need to give it to God. And Thank Him for all the Blessings He has given to me. I may not be rich, but my needs are met, and that's the main thing. I'm also healthy, Praise the Lord for that. I met my lifelong best friend at IHS, she was new too. Her name is Linda Hillard, we lost touch for a long time, then one day she called my mom. It just so happened I was coming to my mom's that day. So I called the number & Linda came up with Kelly, her best friend from Norfolk, VA. They grew up together. So I got to reconnect with two great people. Now we stay in touch via e-mail and sometimes telephone. Linda is doing great. It's great to see old friends again and tell each other about our lives. Well, I'll stop writing this book, I write long e-mails too. Bye for now! Sharon
