Carole's Story

I'm Italian/Irish-French... Born and Raised in Oneonta New York,Grew up on Grand St but spent most of my time at Good Year Lake. My dad had a fast boat and also at the F & F Air Port where he used to Fly. Attended St. Mary's School until sixth grade and moved on to Oneonta Old Junior High School on Academy St. Mr. Higgens was the principal at that time. We had split sessions. Unfortunately, I had to go in afternoons, which I hated so I enjoyed skipping on nice days and spent alot of time in the teacher's lounge! LOL When My mom became ill, I spent 18 months living in Chadwicks, New York with my Aunt, Uncle and Cousin. My cousin was Valdictorian of the school and my Uncle was on the board of education. So....There was NO skipping when I lived there. I was in a Competition Color Guard and we marched at the Worlds Fair and won competitions around our locall areas that we marched. I twirlled the gun. Had some great friends out there and family, so I felt at home. I moved back home for 9th grade and took business courses, worked afternoons and drove a nice 1968 Camaro. Drove several nice vehicles but that was my favorite. I married in 1970, had two children one son 1974 and one daughter 1979. I am very proud of my children. My children are very successful in their careers. My son is employed by Nascar in NC and my daughter is employed in Men's Fashion in NYC. I worked in retail at Endicott Johnson Shoe Store at age 16, as a clerk and ast. manager, other shoe stores, including Brady's , Bresee's Dept Store, and Nichols. Sold Water beds at the South Side Mall and also Pet Councelor at the Pet Parade. Always wanted to be a beatutician and work for Esther's Hair Bazaar. She was a fabulous beautician. After my children were born, I worked at the shoe store for a short time and then as a Printer on Dietz Street for a year, moving on to Hartwick College's Acts. Payable and State University Of Oneonta as a temp Foreign Language Dept. Secretary. SUCO was my most favorite position. Prior to my move to NC in 2004, I managed and operated the Maple Terrace Motel on RT. 7, toward Otego, for 8 years. Not an easy job but met many nice tourist and did enjoy the beauty of the creek that ran behind...Expand for more
the motel. It allowed me to focus on myself and my spirituality being I had to be there alllllll the time. It has been a very big change for me leaving my home town and friends. The opportunity to be closer to my adult son brough our family closer on holiday times and when my daughter visits, we can all be together. I have a Siamese Cat who belonged to my xx:LOL, She is with me after 20 years, My daughters cat,17 on the 14th of February, and since my dog of 15 years passed while still living in Oneonta, I have a new dog who just turned 7 on the 7th of February. She has a cat that is about 5ish. So... I am an animal and nature lover. I have had two foot reconstructive surgeries which is giving me a better quality life now. Since the surgeries, I have lost 67 unwanted pounds and am beginning to loook and feel like myself again. I used to be addicted to exercise up to the late 80's when I tore a tendon away from the bone so now, I am healing nicely. I love gardening and the weather here, in my area of NC, is beautiful even winters are great compared to the ones I have experienced in NY. I have enjoyed going to car shows as my son is also involved showing three of his vehicles. He also and drags his Charger so now I have an interest in legal dragging...I remember the good ole days of street dragging toward Unadilla drive in. I enjoy flea markets and the lawn sales are amazing out here.Shopping is fantastic and every where I look. There are many nice restaurants that I enjoy and a nice place in Mooresville called: Queen's Landing which is similar to Otsego Lake Cooperstown. Another fun place to go is Lancaster BBQ...Wednesday's Bike Night. Lots of nice bikes and good bands. I won two shirts last time and it reminded me of going to Spinners and winning shirts there in the '80's. The locaton of NC is really growing where I am living. I'm really glad I have had four years to adjust. I enjoy crocheting animal blankets, baby blankets, my flowers,a few new friends, new church, Butterfly Bushes, Butterflies,ButterflyKisses, Yellow Roses and other interests. The only thing I am still looking to find is: is the *Man in my Dreams*. So that is all I can think of about me at this time.
