Rusty's Story
Hi. I live in Arizona and have since 1976. I have been in real estate in Paradise Valley,Scottsdale, and Phoenix since May 1978. I have a wonderful wife, Charlene, and two boys (31 and 29). The oldest graduated in Finance from the University of Arizona and has worked in real estate with me for the past eight years. My youngest is a manager and works for Marriott. Charlene and I have two Scottie dogs and two rescue cats. The year I spent in Vietnam attached to the Army - it did a lot for me - I grew up, matured and figured out what I wanted out of life. After my time was up in the military, I went back to school at the University of Kansas and graduated with a BS in Business. The only thing I would change - I wish I was a little younger. I still love cars. I drove a white Triumph TR3 convertible in high school and had short red hair - I still have most of my red hair but some of it is now grey. I have driven on the Autobahn many times above 150+ MPH, the Nurburgring Race Track in Germany four separate days, and 178 MPH in Northern Nevada in a new Corvette. BMW's "M" division invited me to Germany a few years ago to drive the new M3 for three days at the Nurburgring Race Track before it was released in Europe. That was a blast.
It is hard to believe that it is now 50 years since I graduated from SMW. I look back on my years in high school with you guys as a really great time. We grew up in what I might call the the Best of Times. I just wish I had known at the time how lucky we were to be there eating burgers at Griff's Burger Bar, driving around, singing the senior boys song before school started, drinking beer, drive-in mo...Expand for more
vies, the Plaza, Winsteads, just having fun and of course all you cute girls.
Please take a minute to say hello or give me a shout. If you ever get out this way give me a call - Charlene and I will meet you for a drink or dinner just about anytime. See you sometime - I hope.
Take care,
Rusty
PS 2013 John Layman was out here. Charlene and I had dinner with him. I have known him since 5th Grade at Antioch Grade School. He looks great - I hadn't seen him since the SMW 20 year. We loved seeing him. Shirley couldn't make that trip - somebody has to keep the economy going. I sold my 65 Pontiac GTO (?) at the Russo Steele Auto Auction 1/12/12. I made it to the BBQ in Antioch Park in June of 2012 and it was great to see all of you that were there. I thought everyone looked pretty damn good considering it had been nearly 50 years! Roger, Jean Kaye, Shirley, Steve, Anthony, Dave, Jay, Gary, ....................... There were a bunch there. Had lunch with Bob DeMasters here in Scottsdale. He looks great and you will recognize him the second you see him. He was in town to play golf for a week or two. I had dinner with Bob & Danise Rae in Breckenridge - they look great (8/23/13). Bob said he had seen Vicki Peak recently - then I saw her the night before the 63.64.65 reunion at the bar party in OP. What a great time we had at the big 49th (50th?) fall of 2013. Many of you came - what fun and good dancing too. Steve Renz came out in January - we went to the Barrett Jackson and the Russo Steele Auctions (Jan. 2016). Steve has changed very little since SMW. What fun for two car idiots. My favorite saying - it's good to be alive.
