Barbara's Story

Graduated from Winnipeg Children's Hospital in 1963. Married Herb Elgie in 1964 who was a fighter pilot in the Canadian Air Force. Herb started with United Airlines in July of 1964 and we moved to the USA. Have lived in Denver, Co., Seattle, Wash. Chicogo,Il. and finally, San Diego, CA. We have raised 3 remarkable children, and now have 3 wonderful grandchildren. I currently work for Sharp Health Care in La Mesa,Ca which is a suburb of San Diego. We spend our summers on Lake Superior in Ontario where Herb grew up.We have 5 neices and nephews and their families that we see every summer...our Canadian kids.... Life has been very good to us.We have not forgotten our Canadian Roots but we do vote down here and take a real interest in politics.....we play golf, Herb still waterskiis, I drive the boat!We spend alot of time with our kids and their families and enjoy living here.The ocean, the mountains and the dessert are all closeby.I love cooking for the family dinners we have here and in Ontario.... We have a gorgeous yellow lab named Jake who goes everywhere with us..he's a big...Expand for more
part of our family. I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. walk on the beach or in our neighborhood with friends. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have challenge, variety, and comrardary to be able to deal with the day-to-day. Florence Nightingale...she started this profession that I love and gave it respectability. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Linda Gunn, because we have remained best friends for all these years.. Golf!! I am nuts about it! patience! If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to doctors without borders, then spend the rest on my kids and grandkids, fix uo the house and save the rest for a rainy day. When I was 12 my parents bought a cottage at Falcon Lake. I remember Linda and I laying on the dock in our bathing suits,tanning ourselves, feeling the warm sun on my skin ,hearing the waves lapping at the side of the dock, and watching the ducks floating by...I will never forget that feeling of peace and happiness...
